ORGANISSIMO - Alive and Kickin’!
Larry Hollis
One thing you can say about the threesome who bill themselves as organissimo is that they sure don't let any grass grow under their feet. Hot on the feels of their last release, Groovadelphia (4/2009 pg 118), comes this, their first live CD accompanied by a separate 75 minute DVD with two extra selections. After almost a decade together their rapport allows them to interact on a high level. Several of the titles are new versions from their three former albums, most of which have acquired a more lustrous sheen after being played on countless gigs. Aside from Frank Zappa's "Blessed Relief" the other tracks are all from within the band. Highlights include the companion pieces "Stomp Yo' Feets" and "Clap Yo' Hands"; a definitive version of their most catchy composition, "Jimmy Smith Goes To Washington"; and the unaccompanied B3 testifying of Jim Alfredson in the center of "Pumpkin Pie". If you haven't picked up on this group yet this is definitely the place to start.
