sheldonm
Hi Rachel, I saw the banner hanging outside the club last week. I don't know a lot about Hunter, any recommendations from anyone??? Mark
Aggie87
My favorite is probably "Return of the Candyman", with Stefon Harris on vibes. Coming in second on my list is his "Natty Dread" album in the Blue Note covers series. I haven't heard his past couple of discs (including the one with Norah Jones guesting), so I'm not sure if his style has changed too much. He also did a couple of TJ Kirk albums, dedicated to playing the musis of Thelonious Monk, James Brown, and Roland Kirk. I've got one of these, and it's a fun listen. Although his sound can be kind of "sparse", I think it would be fascinating to see him play that 8-string guitar...
Joe G
Grooves all night long. He puts on a great show.
jazzmessenger
rachel, I just saw his group last summer, so I think I will pass this time. It should be a good show, though.
Jim Alfredson
His latest record on Rope-a-dope is probably my favorite so far. I'd love to see him in concert.
rachel
All righty then. All Michiganders are hereby instructed to road-trip it. First round is on me.

Jim Alfredson
I'd love to go on a road trip, but we might be opening for Spyro Gyra that evening (still waiting to hear back from that dude, Joe.) And even if we're not, I'm playing with my R&B band in northern Michigan later that night and Saturday as well.
rachel
I'd love to go on a road trip, but we might be opening for Spyro Gyra that evening .... Well....then I think you deserve a rain-check! Hope you get the gig.
rachel
Almost forgot! All Texans are hereby instructed to road-trip it (come on up Aggie!)
Aggie87
Okay Rachel, I'm there! First stop Austin, to pick up Lon & Brandon, then up to DFW for JSngry & Big Al - anyone else I'm forgetting? Probably have to swing by KC on the way up to pick up Rooster and the crew in that area (gotta fill up this VW minibus, right??)
rachel
I better let the Jazz Kitchen know that they need more beer..... way more beer.
Aggie87
Rachel - You mind if we stay for a few weeks? Double bill of Brad Mehldau Trio and John Scofield Trio at the Indy Jazz Festival on June 19th. I hope White River State Park ain't too far from your driveway, cuz that's where we'll be sleeping!! And could you run an extension cord out to my van, so we can plug in the mini-keg fridge? PS - None of these people are Lon, Sngry, Big Al, or myself (and why is Cheney wearing that frog t-shirt??). They are simply being used for illustrative purposes. Edited May 13, 2004 by Aggie87
rachel
Shurr! We have plenty of , uh .... places where you can sleep in your car. (I was thinking that Jsngry was the one in the middle who is so "relaxed")
sheldonm
White River Park is only 10.2 miles from my front door. If I can find about 520.24 100' extension cords (I already have two) lying around we could set you up in their parking lot and you could stumble right to the stage!! I'm still on for the second round!!! Mark
rachel
Mark, I have (1) extension cord I can add to the mix. It's all about the keg. Edited May 14, 2004 by rachel
