Guest oldschooljazz Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 I bet you haven't, but let me tell you a little about him. He's a 24 year old jazz artist from Toronto. He is incredible. He jazzed up "Please, Please Me" by The Beatles (check it out at www.mattdusk.com). He also used a song, "Two Shots", that Bono originally wrote for Frank Sinatra. Tell me what you think. Enjoy!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
robviti Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 Tell me what you think. since you asked...i took the time to listen to the audio and video clips. personally, i think they're crap. the crooning on the "jazzed up" beatles tune is second-rate harry connick (which makes it third-rate sinatra). the other selections are uninteresting smooth jazz. definately not my cup o' tea. robviti Posted May 7, 2004 Report Posted May 7, 2004 okay, now you have me wondering. what does dmitry play in his office? new age george winston? classic evans trio? or maybe hardcore mingus. after all, he was known for changing a couple of guys' dental work! Quote
Dmitry Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 I'm afraid I'm stuck with the Classical Relaxation cds, Sade and an occasional bossa nova record, even though I *try* to slip some jazz into the mix, just to maintain the status quo. I really tried to give it some variety, but the patients just don't seem to take well to Sonny Simmons for some reason, much less to Coltrane or even Bill Evans. When someone asks for something more contemporary I instruct the staff to say that I'm old-fashioned. One patient gave the receptionist a Kenny G cd for X-mas last year, kid you not. I confiscated it right after he left, no reason given. Don't ask me what I did with it. Nothing beats R&B. I think it might be the only style of music that truly has no racial boundaries. Sade is surprisingly non-tiring. Al Grey also wears extremely well. So does Marvin Gaye. My experiment with Ella's Song-Books didn't go as planned. Let's just say that show tunes had an interesting effect on one gentleman, but I politely declined the invitation. Not that there's anything wrong with it... Quote
doubleM Posted May 11, 2004 Report Posted May 11, 2004 Dmitry, Is that Al Grey (Dizzy Atmosphere), or Al Green? Quote
