.:.impossible Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 I've realized that all the recordings I have of Bird with Max are kind of crappy in sound quality. What are some better-quality recordings that you would recommend? The Quintet sounds pretty good if I remember correctly, but that was 53. Anything earlier? Thanks! Quote
couw Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 Do you have the Dial stuff? It's from 1947 and sounds okay. Quote
Pete C Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 The Verve sessions from December 1952 ("The Song is You" etc.) and July 1953 ("Confirmation," "Now's the Time" etc.) are both excellent and in excellent sound. Quote
DMP Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 How about the recent "Fantasy" SACD hybrid of the Massey Hall concert? Quote
P.L.M Posted May 5, 2004 Report Posted May 5, 2004 The Verve sessions from December 1952 ("The Song is You" etc.) and July 1953 ("Confirmation," "Now's the Time" etc.) are both excellent and in excellent sound. Agreed. Particularly the 52 session. Both are reunited on the album NOW'S THE TIME who is, I think, still available in his Japanese version THE GENIUS OF CHARLIE PARKER#3: NOW'S THE TIMES/ THE QUARTET OF CHARLIE PARKER (VERVE - JAPAN) Quote
kh1958 Posted May 6, 2004 Report Posted May 6, 2004 The best sounding Bird recording is his last session on Verve, a session of Cole Porter songs. Quote
