dave9199 Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 Does anyone have this? Mine has 2 seconds of silence between tracks, while fine for a studio album, half of this is live. I called the label & they said that's how the Atlantic master was sent to them. I just want to check if that's true. Quote
couw Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 will have to check. I don't remember anything specifically annoying. Meanwhile, here's a nice, smokin' Rah inspired pic for y'all... Quote
rockefeller center Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 I've got the 32 Jazz release (4 CDs: Left&Right, Rahsaan Rahsaan, Prepare Thyself..., Other Folks Music). No gaps here. I can imagine that gaps between 3-5 and 6-7 are annoying. Quote

RDK Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 Geez, don't tell me they're "mastering" this using "track-at-once." Hell, I can do that at *home.* Quote
dave9199 Posted April 28, 2004 Author Report Posted April 28, 2004 Is the 32 jazz release (Aces Back To Back) like an actual box set, or is it just the indiviual discs put together in a box? Quote
couw Posted April 28, 2004 Report Posted April 28, 2004 IOW: it looks like a MESS! thankyou rockstar. The Aces BtoB box has two slim case 2CD sets in a cardboard sleeve, one booklet, w/ original liners, no original cover art but teenyweeeny ones. Quote

Ah yes, these are the proper expressions for those items which would have saved me two minutes that I could have spent in the stupid questions thread. Quote
dave9199 Posted April 28, 2004 Author Report Posted April 28, 2004 Thanks for the info on the box set. Quote
dave9199 Posted May 12, 2004 Author Report Posted May 12, 2004 Just wanted to let people know I just picked up 3-Sided Audio Dream on Collectables and this also has 2 seconds of silence between tracks that run together. DO NOT BUY THESE!!! Quote

DO NOT BUY THESE!!! did they at least leave the small eternity before the telephone conversation on the final track? I know there was a two-on-one issue on 32jazz (paired with a Lateef album I believe), where they cut the silence out, bye bye to rah's joke. Quote
dave9199 Posted May 12, 2004 Author Report Posted May 12, 2004 Here's an email I just got from Hyena Records after I passed along my feelings about the Collectables label: Dave, Thanks for writing. First off, you learned the hard way to never buy anything from Collectables. They have no intention of serving the music. It's like a chop shop.  Secondly, I'll pass your email along to Joel Dorn, but there is nothing whatsoever he can do about it. He hasn't worked for Atlantic records since the mid-70s. As I'm sure you know, Atlantic is owned by Warner Music Group, which up until a few months ago was part of AOL, and still remains a mega corporation. Joel Dorn is so far off their radar to not even be existant when it comes to the masters they issue to licensing labels for reissue. Even if he were to complain about them mis-representing his original productions, it would mean exactly nothing to them.  It's a drag, but unfortunately it's the reality of the situation. If it were Rhino reissuing those records, he could have more say, but the licensing to other labels is a lost cause.  If you're a Rahsaan fan, you should check out Compliments of The Mysterious Phantom on HYENA. It's a live recording from '74 in San Diego. It's must have Rahsaan! Stay tuned and keep in touch. couw Posted May 12, 2004 Report Posted May 12, 2004 (edited) are the pauses indicated by minus signs on your CD player display? if so, you can get rid of them by copying the disk track by track (not at once) and selecting a zero pause between the tracks. Edited May 12, 2004 by couw Quote
dave9199 Posted May 13, 2004 Author Report Posted May 13, 2004 Yeah, it counts down minus 2 seconds between each track. Side 4 of Audio Dream is still there. it's 12:41 long. As I made sure to be doing something else while waiting for it, it scared the shit out of me when it came on. I figured that was the desired respone. Quote
