sal Posted January 28, 2007 Report Posted January 28, 2007 I have the Solti recording with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and love it. This is one of my favorite pieces of orchestral music. Mahler was a genius. Quote
Guest youmustbe Posted January 29, 2007 Report Posted January 29, 2007 I was at the NY PHIL concert Saturday...Muti conducting...one of the pieces was the 2nd piano concerto by Giuseppe Martucci...the last time it was perfomed by the Phil was in 1918, and Mahler conducted...and it was the last performance Gus ever conducted..he felt ill, doctor told him to go back to Vienna...he did and then died a little while later...that's Showbiz!!!! Lenny Bernstein, of course, was a great Mahler conductor, as was Mitropoulos, check his stuff out...but Christoph Eschenbach, getting so much grief at the Philadelphia, does terrific Mahler performances...I don't care for Mahler, full of shit, pretentious crap, the Stan Kenton of his time, but it sure sounds great in the concert hall !!!!
