wesbed Posted April 28, 2004 Author Report Posted April 28, 2004 (edited) Yep: coupon Thanks for the coupon link. I might have to use this coupon this evening. I assume I can print it, cut it out, hand it to my friendly Border's clerk, and take my 20%? Edited April 28, 2004 by wesbed Quote

wesbed Posted June 17, 2004 Author Report Posted June 17, 2004 (edited) I went to Border's yesterday (6/16/04), checking the shelves to see what new releases I might find. I found nothing new. I checked JazzMaTazz today and discovered that there was really nothing released yesterday. It looks like the next significant release date will be on 6/29/04. Edited June 17, 2004 by wesbed Quote

wesbed Posted June 29, 2004 Author Report Posted June 29, 2004 (edited) I wonder how many of these titles Border's will have on the shelves by the close of business on 6/29/04? Uhhh... none? (and not because the CDs sold so fast, rather, because it takes the Border's staff till the evening of Wednesday or Thursday to get the new titles available to the public, if the new titles are available at all) Maybe I should simply order from CD Universe and save the Border's hassle? Rooster_Ties Posted July 14, 2004 Report Posted July 14, 2004 OK, so I'm ichin' to get the new RVG's of "Black Fire" (street date was today), and "Action" (street date was a couple weeks ago) --- and I can't find them for shit in this town... OK, that isn't entirely fair - because I do see that a couple Borders have them (you can check their inventories, by store, from their web-site), but they're all located way out in the suburbs -- a good 15-minute drive from mid-town Kansas City (or 20-minutes in rush-hour traffic). Streetside Records in midtown didn't have any of the RVG's today, nor do they appear to have any of the RVG's from two weeks ago either. And Barnes and Noble didn't have any of today's RVG's either (but they did have the ones from two weeks ago), BUT -- they had them at full-list price, $12.99, which bites. (Borders (out in the 'burbs) has them at $11.99, which is more reasonable -- especially with some sort of coupon, 10%, 15%, or even 20% off.) Some more bitching about Barnes & Noble. They have a relatively deep jazz selection, sorta. But they also have a ton of jazz titles that I wouldn't touch with a 10-foot pole. And worse yet, they only sell CD's at full list price. Just today I saw BN titles from 5-years ago (some of which are already cut-outs), that they had priced at $17.99 or even $18.99 a disc. WTF??? Sorry to be ranting, but it pisses me off when really mainstream titles like BN-reissues, are such a bitch to find on release day (or even two weeks after release day). Remember the trouble I had finding "Passing Ships" for like three days, when it came out last October?? There was a time, just two years ago, when BN titles were easy to find, everywhere (Streetside, Borders, B&N, etc...), and on release day too. I'm done ranting, for the moment... Quote

Rooster - sad to say, I can't remember the last time a bought a new-release CD from a KC retail establishment. These days, it's all CD Universe through Alan's site. So, my new release day becomes Thur or Fri. I can live with that, although I would like to support local retailers. It really is a sad state of affairs ... the only mom-n-pop is that Streetside/Pennylane and anymore, their jazz selection is spotty at best. Oh well, all hail the internet (I think ... ) Quote
