Chuck Nessa Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 No mention yet of Phillip Wilson's Esoteric lp on Hat Hut. It is a series of duets with Olu Dara. Quote
Chrome Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Tim Hagans does a trumpet/drum duet (and trumpet/bass duet) on Audible Architecture ... Quote
Jazz Kat Posted January 24, 2005 Report Posted January 24, 2005 Dizzy's chops were totally shot by then, and the open-ended "free duet" format was not his thing anyway. It's a pretty depressing listen, except for the interviews at the end. I feel the same way about the Terry/Roach duets, but not because of Clark. Max has finally gotten old, and it pains me to hear that. Bowie/Wilson=HELL YEAH!, as does Cherry/Blackwell, although for THAT pairing, I prefer the MU sides to EL CORAZON. Not to mention Roach's drums sound like [crap.] I guess it has a lot to do with how albums are recorded nowadays, buthis bass durm is so dead. i miss his boomy bass drum and the echo of his toms and snare, on say, the Brownie/Roach Quintet albums.
