A Lark Ascending Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 (edited) Octopus's Garden...can't remember where the apostrophe goes and can't be bothered to check. I find 'She's Leaving Home' cloying...a bit too earnest in its attempt at social commentary. Maybe it's because it was played to us at school to make a point (we also had 'Within You, Without You' played to awaken our spirituality but I got over that)! "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" - the verse part is wonderfully dreamy; the chorus is awful. Edited April 22, 2004 by Bev Stapleton Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Oh yeah: I don't care for "You Know My Name..." Now that's just TOO stoned! It sure is! Quote
tonym Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 And I have played I am the Walrus more than any other song ever! Smoke Pot, smoke pot, everybody smoke pot! Or is it, Got one, got one, everybody's got one? So, if you badmouth it, I'm gonna kick your ass! Â Â Or not.... I thought it was "hookah, hookah, everybody smokes pot..." ********************************************* BTW, your avatar is "Humpty, rhymes with a Bumpty"! Oh yeah! I always thought it was "Oompah, oompah, stick it up your jumper.."associated with the little orange blokes from Roald Dahl's 'Willy Wonka' book. Quote
JSngry Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Oh yeah: I don't care for "You Know My Name..." Now that's just TOO stoned! It sure is! THAT'S my MOST favorite Beatles song. Period. But I love the Bonzos, and that's a very Bonzo-esque cut. And Brian Jones on tenor. Sucking! PERFECT! Quote
Big Al Posted April 22, 2004 Author Report Posted April 22, 2004 And Brian Jones on tenor. Sucking! PERFECT! So THAT'S how he got that sound! Quote
JSngry Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 What, you think he actually PRACTICED? Quote
dave9199 Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I've seen video where McCartney says You Know My Name is one of his favorites. I think it's in Anthology (the video, I mean). Quote
ralphie_boy Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I don't mind Revolution #9 at all. I never have - even when I was a small child. This one used to scare the bejesus out of me when I was little. Reminded me of something out of Rosemary's Baby. And then when played backwards.... Quote

Eric Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 How about "Long, Long, Long", which is exactly that. And very dull too. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Baby You're a Rich Man... I love that song! Quote
Leeway Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I've never liked "Hey Jude"-- that lyric, "Mother Mary comes to me..." really gets on my nerves. Also don't like most of McCartney's post-Beatles music. I guess I'm a Lennon fan. Favorite albums are BEATLES 65, RUBBER SOUL, and REVOLVER. Quote
DTMX Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I really like Oh Darling - but not the version sung by Robin Gibb. Always liked Dear Prudence too. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ob-la-sucks. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 I'll be really bold and say that pretty much most post '68 McCartney music doesn't float my boat (except for side 2 of Abbey Road ) Quote
JSngry Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Baby You're a Rich Man... I love that song! I love darn near ALL those songs, even the ones that aren't as good as the others. Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Baby You're a Rich Man... I love that song! I love darn near ALL those songs, even the ones that aren't as good as the others. I like that attitude. The Beatles really didn't have many clinkers. Quote
Big Al Posted April 22, 2004 Author Report Posted April 22, 2004 Baby You're a Rich Man... I love that song! Me too! Especially the bass! Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Baby You're a Rich Man... I love that song! Me too! Especially the bass! Yeah, that Paul McCartney lookalike they found (after he was killed in 1966) played a mean bass guitar. Quote
DrJ Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Eric Posted: Apr 22 2004, 03:20 PM How about "Long, Long, Long", which is exactly that. And very dull too. Oh NO NO NO - that's a GREAT one to me, Eric. Spooky as shit too, love the way it's recorded, you have to kind of strain to hear much of it but then there's those great Ringo drum bits that pop through. And that ghost sound at the end. Yikes - "Revolution #9" is funny, this one is plain scary. There's some creepy stuff on THE BEATLES..."Cry Baby Cry" has always been one of my favorites, with an Addams Family vibe, excellent tune. dave9199 Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Speaking of Revolution 9...in reference to the Paul Is Dead rumor, has anyone found any clues not mentioned anywhere? I credit myself with having found the first Anti-Paul Is Dead clue. The last thing you hear on Revolution 9 is a crowd chanting "Block that kick.", but if you bead your eyes, turn your head at a 46 degree angle during a full lunar eclipse; you can hear what they're actually saying which is..... Block that kick. No, no; only joking. It's "Paul's not dead". Try it. -_- Quote
DrJ Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Actually (and I'm serious here) if you listen carefully to that "block that kick," it gradually starts to sound like "block that Nixon" which is weird, but was it intentional? Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Oh man, you're high. Aren't we all? Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) Wait a minute; has someone been listening to Revolution no. 9 not high? Edited April 23, 2004 by Jazzmoose Quote
AfricaBrass Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 Wait a minute; has someone been listening to Revolution no. 9 not high? Actually, I haven't smoked anything in years, but I still love that track. Quote
