David Ayers Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 And the JJ set sounds as good or better than many of the 24-bit CDs in my collection. So there! I tend to agree. This set reflects a pre-mp3 age of remastering! A little soft-grained by today's in-your-face standards, but very musical. Quote
Daniel A Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 The sound of the JJ set is splendid. I have a Japanese "Blue Trombone" CD, but haven't seen any reason to play it that often since getting the Mosaic. Quote
J.A.W. Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 (...) A little soft-grained by today's in-your-face standards, but very musical. For me, that's a big plus. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 I can only speak for the Mosaic JJ LP set but the music is fantastic, Same here.... Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted April 18, 2006 Report Posted April 18, 2006 although you probably will be able to piece together much of it from other sources. Not sure about that. It seems that at least half the set is no longer available on cd. And what you can find is sold at high prices. In that case, the defense rests. Act now. Comes down to money. What my wallet can't afford, I do not need. Quote

Ron S Posted April 20, 2006 Report Posted April 20, 2006 i might have zero JJJ cds in my collection..... You should also try to pick up the 2 "Eminent Jay Jay" CDs on Blue Note: These recordings are a bit earlier than those on the Mosaic set, and also include some great sidemen, including Clifford Brown. I agree with Ron. In addition, everything he recorded with Kai Winding is also recommended. This is a good strat: Edited April 21, 2006 by B. Goren. Quote

Late Posted April 25, 2006 Report Posted April 25, 2006 I'd think that the Johnson Mosaic, when it finally does time out, will eventually be one of those sets that fetches absurd* prices on eBay. * or ridiculous, insane, inflated ... you name it Quote
