JSngry Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 Three words: Diet Vanilla Coke. Three more words: Diet Lime Coke! One of each gets me through many a night at the office. I usually start w/the lime because the citrus flavor is kinda "WAKE UP", and the vanilla is more "chill out....", but I'm feeling passive-agressive, I'll reverse the sequence. Gotta keep the bastards guessing! Quote
JSngry Posted April 21, 2004 Author Report Posted April 21, 2004 However, there's a store-brand soda that I just got into. Up til now I've always loathed store-brand drinks, but I tried this Albertson's Strawberry soda and it's surprisingly good. Kind of like drinking liquid sugar. Nice! Those store brand sodas are usually pretty lame when it comes to "regular" flavors, but you can get some decent results when it comes to he fruity ones. Do they still make Shasta? That was a brand that was cheap, and their colas, etc. sucked, but their various fruity sodas were none too bad. I particularly remember with fondness a black cherry soda. Quote
Soulstation1 Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 (edited) i like the fry's brand black cherry soda, it's only $.59. what about fanta grape? Edited April 21, 2004 by Soulstation1 Quote
BruceH Posted April 21, 2004 Report Posted April 21, 2004 Yes, they still make Shasta. Never tried it before, maybe it's time to start. Diet Lime Coke IS pretty good! The "lime" flavor takes the curse off the "diet" taste. If you live near a Safeway, the "Lemon/Lime Safeway Select" is amazingly good, and 97 cents per sixpack! Glug! Quote
BruceH Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 Fanta is just not around here. My wife says it's been ages since it was. Guess I'll have to drown my troubles in IBC. Quote
JSngry Posted April 22, 2004 Author Report Posted April 22, 2004 Well, if the choice is between IBC and Fanta, hell, you got the winner! But Fanta is a Coca-Cola product, and they got their stuff everywhere, I'd have thought. Quote
Brandon Burke Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 If I drank regular (non-diet) colas it would be RC by a mile. Not only does it taste better than the others, they're also a significant sponsor of Little League Baseball. I mean c'mon..... Otherwise.... Quote
Jazzmoose Posted April 22, 2004 Report Posted April 22, 2004 But Fanta is a Coca-Cola product, and they got their stuff everywhere, I'd have thought. That's what I would have thought, but I haven't seen the stuff (of any variety) in years. Quote
JSngry Posted April 22, 2004 Author Report Posted April 22, 2004 What about Welch's/Minute Maid sodas? Those are Coke products too. Do you have those? Why we have both in these parts is beyond me. Maybe it's because Plano is the home of the world headquarters for the Dr. Pepper/Seven Up Corporation, and Coca-Cola takes no prisoners. Quote
BruceH Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) All I know is, Fanta is supposed to be a "down-scale" imprint of Coca Cola, they were around here a long time ago, but not for years. I even have vague memories of Fanta being available in New England when I was growing up, but maybe I'm just kidding myself. For apple-soda I'll have to stick to Martinelli's. Haven't looked for the Welch's/Minute Maid sodas (though I think they're around). I used to think that they stopped making Fresca, but boy was I wrong! Edited April 23, 2004 by BruceH Quote
tjobbe Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) as a world-wide traveller I can e.g. tell you that Sprite taste totally different in the US vs. Europe. I tried it once -in Minneapolis Airport- and it tastes as if it had less flavour as the european version which compared tasted more sauer, or Coke itself is much sweeter in the US vs. Germany at least. So the recipes might be slightly different from bottlery to bottlery ... Cheers, Tjobbe EDIT: does anybody know how to get Dr.Pepper in germany Urgent call for Dr.Pepper Edited April 23, 2004 by tjobbe Quote
Rooster_Ties Posted April 23, 2004 Report Posted April 23, 2004 (edited) Anybody else here like Birch Beer?? Or Sarsaparilla?? Or Ginger Beer?? (Ginger Beer is the strongest of the three.) Dan Gould Posted April 25, 2004 Report Posted April 25, 2004 I was all ready to try some Fanta Apple soda, but alas, like the famous Altoid mints Rooster was crowing about, they've yet to make it to south Florida. Quote

Whole bunch of Root Beer ratings and other related info here: www.root-beer.info I thought Sarsaparilla was just the mid-western name for root beer? I've tried Birch Beer and Ginger Beer and didn't care for them. Dan, Altoids deserve a thread all their own. They're that good. Quote

Joe Posted April 29, 2004 Report Posted April 29, 2004 FANTA products are big internationally, especially in South Asia. Look for this one the next time you're near an Indo-Pak Mart: Quote
BruceH Posted May 1, 2004 Report Posted May 1, 2004 Finally found some Fanta. One store has 2-liter bottles of it for 99 cents, but no Apple. The Strawberry is good though. Quote
