A Lark Ascending Posted December 23, 2010 Report Posted December 23, 2010 Weather forecast here was predicting lots of snow in the Neths and Germany at the end of the week with a chance it might touch our south east. Local forecast has more snow here on Monday. Temperatures are -1 at present (predicted to be at or just around freezing for the foreseeable future, tough -7 on Saturday night!). Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 At last a thaw! After 6 days of not functioning the central heating kicked in yesterday (fortunately I was not at home much). Quote
BillF Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 At last a thaw! But now it's our American friends' turn! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 British Gas' solution to my problem: So now I need to buy... Heath Robinson or what! Quote
Dan Gould Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 At last a thaw! But now it's our American friends' turn! Low in Palm Beach was about 30 last night - about -1 for you guys. Plenty cold for south Florida. But at least I'm not up at my parent's house in CT, buried under 20 inches of snow, I'm guessing. Quote
aparxa Posted December 27, 2010 Report Posted December 27, 2010 30 today, about 86 for you guys Quote
sidewinder Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) British Gas' solution to my problem: So now I need to buy... Heath Robinson or what! Back to the 70s ! Incidentally, if you want a good re-imersion back into the 70s crises (3 day week, power cuts etc.) I recommend Dominic Sandbrook's latest book (just reading it). Snow thawed outside for the first time for several weeks. Clear roads again ! Edited December 28, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Incidentally, if you want a good re-imersion back into the 70s crises (3 day week, power cuts etc.) I recommend Dominic Sandbrook's latest book (just reading it). I have it on my shelf - loved his previous two. The only thing that is delaying me is the fact that I read a marvellous account of a slightly longer stretch of the 70s back in May - 'When the Lights Went Out' by Andy Beckett. Amazing how much I had completely forgotten. ********** Complete thaw - not a spot of snow to be seen. Edited December 28, 2010 by A Lark Ascending Quote
sidewinder Posted December 28, 2010 Report Posted December 28, 2010 (edited) Yeah, I have the other 2 Sandbrooks too. They are excellent. His next tome will be about the Callaghan era (74-79) apparently. No doubt to be followed by another behemoth about Mrs T ! Must pick up that Beckett book - have seen it in the shops. Oh hang on, this is the weather thread.. Edited December 28, 2010 by sidewinder Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 After the high drama of the first 3 weeks of December, a week where temperatures rose and the country was enveloped in a gloomy mist for day after day. At least all our water pipes haven't popped like in Northern Ireland: Weather and infrastructure blamed for water crisis Quote
BeBop Posted January 1, 2011 Report Posted January 1, 2011 At present, 3:30AM, it's dark. As George Carlin would have said, we're expecting "widely scattered patches of light, later in the day". Quote

B. Goren. Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Rainy weather in Tel Aviv and relatively cold. Quote
BeBop Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 Sun's out in Midtown Manhattan...wait, spoke to soon...hold on, it's back...er wait... Well, the snow's melting a bit, though more's coming. A fine time to be on crutches, with the better part of a mile between work and hotel. What, me complain? Quote
jlhoots Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 18 below the other night (not wind chill). Moderating today. Quote
John L Posted February 4, 2011 Report Posted February 4, 2011 98 degrees in the shade here in Lagos. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 (edited) Very windy. I assume that somewhere over the Atlantic there's a stormy eye flashing at the sound of lies. Edited February 5, 2011 by A Lark Ascending Quote
sidewinder Posted February 5, 2011 Report Posted February 5, 2011 Very windy. Same down here. Much preferable to the extreme cold though. Quote
