We are getting pounded this morning (and all last night)! A friend stayed over last night and the snow is already up to a quarter of her tire!

Yeah, I spoke to soon. This are didn't miss the brunt of anything. <_<

We can't compete with what's going on up north, but man....we had 2 very warm days, around 70 Thursday and Friday...now flurries!!! This is not a photo that I took back in January, but a brand new one after a brief snow shower. Oh, and the winds are gusting up to 40 MPH!!!! It has been so very windy this year, the same most everywhere else I assume???

Nice view, even in the snow. Didn't think Atlanta looked anything like that.

Being a bit hilly you mean??? Or all the trees??? The home builders have tried, but haven't been able to cut them all down yet....to be fair, this is a fairly new subdivision(built in the early 90's) and they did leave a fair number of trees, which is not always the case. Those evergreens drop needles all year round though.

Funny, the hilliness isn't all that noticeable compared to a lot of other cities, of course, but everything's relative. I remember back when I worked for Borders Books, some trainers were brought in from the Miami area to help stock and train a new store in north Atlanta. And those Florida guys and gals, were just amazed by the hills, and fairly tiny Stone Mountain!!! I think except for Gainsville Florida, the rest of the state is as flat as a pancake!

Indeed, Florida is about as flat as you get! When I was growing up there a hill of dirt made by a construction company was the center of attraction as that was the tallest thing around (minus buildings of course!).

Both actually - though I should really not be surprised by the number of trees in America; it's one of the great delights.

Is a subdivision a suburb?

Alot of rain here today. Pouring at times with a brief outburst of thunder and lightning. There's alot of water running down the street. On a positive note, a good amount of snow has melted. I just can't wait till spring!

We now have over a foot with two foot drifts and its still snowing!

Not that bad here, but I am officially tired of the cold.

I think you guys are going to luck out and miss the brunt of the storm. If I knew how to upload pictures, I'd take one of this four foot drift in my back yard, its wild! And its still snowing! We now have around 15 inches!

I'm scheduled to change planes in Cincinnati tomorrow. Should I be concerned?

Last night I tried to get my flight changed to go through Atlanta, but it would have cost me $300 (!), so I decided to try my luck this morning. When I got to the airport (Seattle) I was told that there was no problem in Cincinnati. But for the time being, the Atlanta airport was closed!

We lost a little time in Cincy getting the plane de-iced, but it was all good.

Glad to hear that GA. A friend told me last night that the weather there was so bad that they had a driving ban; no one was allowed to leave their home!

Yesterday we got 3 inches of rain and the WIND was like a Freight train., kept me up all night.

The lawn is covered with tree branches and one of the branched slammed into our front door last night.

It's been gorgeous here all day - not a sign of Gotterdammerung.

Disappointing:

a) Because I had to stay in and work all day - some nasty end of term deadlines.

b) I was hoping we'd get a call saying the school was closed tomorrow due to the end of the world, reopening Tuesday.

Looks like I'll have to head in whilst a maelstrom sweeps around me.

Maelstrom here nowhere near as bad as expected last night. Worst to come?

Not bad here, either - and the maps on the TV forecast this morning showed that we were right in it. I wonder if this is a case of 1986 having too much of an impact, such that forecasters are now inclined to say things will be a lot worse than they turn out to be. Crying wolf is as bad as underestimating the severity of a storm.

I wonder how good American forecasters are at predicting the severity of storms?

I might have spoke too soon.

Pressed 'View New Posts' and got:

The error returned was:

Sorry, the board administrator has enabled search flood control. Please wait at least 20 seconds before trying again.

Do I have to put sandbags against the computer screen?

A few branches on the roads this morning and heavy rain today but - on the whole - nowhere near as bad as expected.

The South Coast, West Wales and Cornwall/Devon seems to have got the worst of it.
