danasgoodstuff Posted September 17, 2020 Report Posted September 17, 2020 AQI here is below 200 for the first time since last week. At least it's not Happy Camp, CA where the readings were approaching 'you're dead' recently. Quote
Matthew Posted September 27, 2020 Report Posted September 27, 2020 Hot, high winds, with fires. Many places in St. Helena are being evacuated. Quote
sidewinder Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 Fantastic clear skies and high teens temps. yesterday - perfect walking weather. Quote
Tom 1960 Posted September 28, 2020 Report Posted September 28, 2020 Much needed rain today. But with morning temperatures around 65 degrees before 7 a.m. a great morning to sit outside on the back porch with a cup of coffee. Bliss. Quote
Matthew Posted October 1, 2020 Report Posted October 1, 2020 (edited) Hot & windy, with very thick smoke from the Glass Fire. We expect an evacuation order sometime today or tomorrow, the fire is at the boarder of Rutherford, and we're next in line. Plus, there's a new fire, Campbell Fire, that is right above us, it's smaller, but we'll see what happens. Edited October 1, 2020 by Matthew Quote

Matthew Posted October 2, 2020 Report Posted October 2, 2020 Thanks for the good wishes, it seems as if we will be sticking around, there's been no word about having to leave. AQI is now at 306 here, I'm drinking water constantly to clear my throat. Quote

catesta Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 (edited) Freezing rain in Yukon Oklahoma this morning. The picture was taken by one of my guys. He left NY on Sunday and got caught up in this mess yesterday. Thought he was going to make Amarillo today but I had to tell him to stay put. Edited October 27, 2020 by catesta Quote
JSngry Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 Amarillo by tomorrow morning...maybe. Quote
JSngry Posted October 27, 2020 Report Posted October 27, 2020 Anybody know anybody who does the Farmer's Almanac thing? I've heard two people who do say that this is supposed to be a hard winter. Quote
ejp626 Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 A fair bit of snow in Toronto this morning. It was dry and reasonably light but there was still a lot to shovel... Quote
kh1958 Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Fourteen straight hours with no power last night (after two hours of power preceded by five hours with no power), while temperature plunged to Minus 2 F. Quote

Guy Berger Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 Sorry to everyone enduring in Texas enduring the combination of a deep freeze and lost power. Hope things warm up quickly and that all of you and your loved ones stay safe. Climate change is really fucking things up for a lot of us worldwide. Quote
jlhoots Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 6 - 8 inches of snow here this a.m. Not as cold as yesterday. Quote

Due to high demand or technical failures? There are power failures in Athens too, due to this strange snowfall that goes on for 48 hours that collapsed overhead power cables. Best and warmest wishes. sidewinder Posted February 16, 2021 Report Posted February 16, 2021 We had some of the coldest temperatures for 25 years in the UK last week - notably in Scotland. It has to be a damn weird period if Athens gets snow. Stay warm, put on a few Art Blakey LPs ! Quote

Or do you have electronic ones and don't know? Not as bad as it might have been--it was 45 F early this morning inside. Finally the power came on and then went off (repeat and repeat)--bascially about six hours of power spread across the day. 10 hours ago, RiRiIII said: Due to high demand or technical failures? Well, we are having a highly unusual level of cold weather across the entire state, sending demand very high (but not as high as we have during heat waves in the summer). However, it appears the power generation companies did not do what was recommended the last time something similar happened about ten years ago--to appropriately winterize the power generators, resulting in many generators failing in the extreme cold and collapsing supply while demand was peaking. We also have the situation where the power industry has been privatized, so the industry is not really operated like a government monopoly utility any more. That may have something to do with it (what's the profit in preparing for the worse case scenario?) In addition, Texas has a large investment in wind power, which has been said to be failing at this point in the extreme cold. Quote
JSngry Posted February 17, 2021 Report Posted February 17, 2021 They didn't winterize the wind turbines. Quote
