T.D. Posted October 21, 2017 Report Posted October 21, 2017 Super Typhoon Lan heading for Japan. Center looks to pass almost directly over Tokyo, according to this diagram as a Category 2 (possibly low-end Category 3) hurricane. Stay safe, kinuta. Quote
kinuta Posted October 21, 2017 Report Posted October 21, 2017 It's been raining nonstop for the last five days. Even a trip to the shops requires full waterproofs. The typhoon is the final coup de grace. It should clear up from Monday afternoon. Thanks for your concern. Quote
sidewinder Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 Similar conditions here for much of yesterday - severe Atlantic storms. Clear skied though this morning, a welcome change. Hope it clears soon kinuta ! Those conditions sound as if they would even beat my Japanese umbrella - still in use and bought at the 7/11 in Tokyo in 2014 ! Quote

Full waterproofs , the only show in town. A baseball cap under the hoodie will keep the rain out of your eyes. Typical typhoon rain. Quote
kinuta Posted October 22, 2017 Report Posted October 22, 2017 As a postscript, I've just had a mobile phone evacuation preparation alert for three nearby neighbourhoods. Nothing to worry about as are on quite high ground. Quote
kinuta Posted October 28, 2017 Report Posted October 28, 2017 Typhoon # 22. Meaning this is the 22nd typhoon this year. We don't use names, just numbers. Quote

BillF Posted June 27, 2018 Report Posted June 27, 2018 I checked out the evacuated area on Street View. Very recently built. The locals say that moorland fires are almost a yearly occurrence, though not as serious as this, of course. Just another case of present-day house building in areas (cf. flood plains) that the "ancients" in their wisdom wouldn't touch? Quote

BillF Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 This morning's Stagecoach driver was suitably shorted, so perhaps the battle has been fought and won. Quote
Brad Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Saturday through next Friday are going to be dreadful in the Northeast US: in the 90s. Quote

Sounds fairly grim, described on Manchester Evening News website as the "biggest fire in living memory" Biggest fire since ‘The Crazy World of Arthur Brown’. Incredible weather we are having down here - just too bad that work coincides with it.. Quote
BillF Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 Now Winter Hill's burning as well, so we're ringed by fire! Now playing: Quote

Apropos of nothing in particular: Arthur Brown went to the same school as me, as did The Magnificent Goldberg. I knew Arthur Brown at school, but didn't know Goldberg. Just thought you'd like to know. Quote
sidewinder Posted June 28, 2018 Report Posted June 28, 2018 (edited) Arthur Brown and Ed Dipple..(but not MG) Pretty amazing ! incidentally - that AB ‘Fire’ performance when broadcast on Top Of The Pops (1967/68?) scared the beejeesus out of me, back in the day Edited June 28, 2018 by sidewinder Quote
