kinuta Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 Summer ! Brilliant blue sky and singing crickets. 35 today. Quote
paul secor Posted July 29, 2016 Report Posted July 29, 2016 We got some rain this morning which has broken some of the heat, and there's supposed to be rain off and on over the next few days. We can use it. Quote
kinuta Posted August 9, 2016 Report Posted August 9, 2016 Ditto the last post. 38C at the moment. Quote
fasstrack Posted August 11, 2016 Report Posted August 11, 2016 Balmy and uncomfortable in Bronx, NY---2 days running. Fortunately, I am indoors... Quote
kinuta Posted August 20, 2016 Report Posted August 20, 2016 Unbearably humid and hot. 98% humidity at the moment with frightening thunder & lightning and monsoon like cloudbursts For the first time this summer I've chickened out of my daily run. Three typhoons heading straight for us. The joys of a Tokyo summer. Good luck with the 2020 Olympics. The Quote
BFrank Posted August 20, 2016 Report Posted August 20, 2016 A balmy 61 degrees and partly cloudy here. Summer in San Francisco! Quote
kinuta Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 One of our two local rivers is close to breaking it's banks. Evacuation preparation is advised in several areas near here. Not to worry, we are on high ground. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 22, 2016 Report Posted August 22, 2016 And you are the site of the next Olympics!!! Hope it doesn't get too disruptive for you, Kinuta. Britain is enjoying a typical summer. Wet'n windy. Total cloud cover most of this weekend. We've had some sunny days and not that much rain but overall it's not been one that (weatherwise) will remain in the memory. Quote

Nobody I've spoken to has any enthusiasm and most wish they would just go away. I've been saying for ages that the decision to hold them in early August is crazy. The 1964 games were held in October when it's quite warm but dry and pleasant. Seems tv big bucks have dictated an August date. The average temperatures are 27-35C with very high humidity, heat island related early evening thunderstorms and the odd typhoon. Summer here is without doubt the very worst time to plan outdoor activity. For us residents it's a time to grit our teeth and long for October to roll round. Edited August 22, 2016 by kinuta Quote
kinuta Posted August 23, 2016 Report Posted August 23, 2016 The typhoons have cleared off. Today is cloudy, rainy and very humid after a bright and clear early morning. Deafening chorus of crickets. Quote
kinuta Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Typhoon #10 nearing. Humid as a jungle, overcast with sudden downpours. Roll on October. Good luck with the 2020 Olympics. Quote

A Lark Ascending Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 (edited) Hit that moment in the last couple of days when summer turns to autumn. So wet and overcast on Friday that it was dark by 8 pm. Woke up very early on Saturday and it was still dark at 6 a.m. More to the point, a slight chill in the morning and evening making me think I'll need the central heating soon. Although today looks like it's going to be be glorious. Always find this a bittersweet time of year - the end of summer, the prospect of gloom and bad weather to come; yet the darker nights have their own magic. Music always sounds better at night. Time to get out Roy Harper's 'When an Old Cricketer Leaves the Crease' - evokes this time of year like nothing else I know: Edited August 29, 2016 by A Lark Ascending Quote

Weather here was great this afternoon. With added bonus that I was able to harvest the first tranche of local blackberries. No need for central heating for at least another month here ! A Lark Ascending Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Yes, summer returned with a vengeance today. Though I'm expecting it to chill very rapidly this evening. Quote
BFrank Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 The most San Francisco summer — just one day in 70s in August Quote
kinuta Posted August 29, 2016 Report Posted August 29, 2016 Rain, cloudy and sauna humid. The newest typhoon has passed by well out to sea. Hopefully we can enjoy some fine weather for a while, at least until the next typhoon. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 Nice bit of British grumpiness here: Good riddance to summer, a thoroughly un-British season We want our gloom back. Quote
sidewinder Posted August 30, 2016 Report Posted August 30, 2016 No complaints from me. Another glorious day down here, in a late Summer 'Miles Davis IOW 1970' sort of way. Doesn't get much better ! Quote
kinuta Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Here we go again. Typhoon # 13 heading this way. Heavily overcast, raining and extremely humid. Quote
fasstrack Posted September 6, 2016 Report Posted September 6, 2016 Finally seasonably cooler in NYC. Finally... Quote
