Highland Park, Il. -- northern suburb of Chicago. Last night it was about -18, today about 3 above. Windchills more than -50 last night night and the night before. About a foot of snow on the ground. Would be at least two feet, but the previous big batch melted in about two days a few weeks ago, causing fairly widespread flooding.

Left the house today in a pure burst of cabin fever. Paid for it when I somehow left an expensive library book in a grocery store shopping cart. Returned 30 minutes later and no one had turned it in. Maybe it'll get returned to the library.

As a mailman, while it's been difficult these past few days with the cold temps, at least there wasn't much of a wind and most importantly the sun was out. Maybe around 15 degrees tops during the day and close to 0 at night. For those who live in cold weather climates, a good pair of Under Armour really helps. It may cost you some bucks but it keeps you damn warm.

Chilly here- temp only made it into the mid-40s. Low 20s tonight. That COLD for these parts!

I expect you folks up north are really getting some cold temps!

Pretty soon you'll be upset when it "dips" down into the 50's, and bundling up in a parka, just like the native Floridians! :w:excited:

Yes Agg, I am slowly but Shirley turning into a whiny Florida wussie. Not quite yet, but probably soon. :rsmile:

Worst snow over here in nearly 20 years - it's GREAT ! :P

Of course many of the wusses in and around London and the SE made their excuses to phone in for the day off..

Largely escaped it here, Sidewinder, and to be frank I don't mind!

Blizzard!

It's not been bad enough in Notts for my school to be shut so far.

But today we've got it good and proper. Nothing to see at all at 5.15 when I got up (I'm 20 miles north of work) but it was already affecting the south Midlands. Got the 'school closed' call at 6.30 (hooray!). Snow started here shortly afterwards and hasn't stopped.

To be honest, I'll get far more useful done at home - clear a backlog of course planning. The last few days have been awkward with parents keeping kids home, decimated classes. Hard to know whether to plough on with courses in the knowledge that kids who are away will be bewildered next week; or just do re-enforcement things.

After a very strange week, weatherwise, a glorious Saturday. Cold enough to keep the surviving snow crisp and attractive. This was the scene just up the road a few hours back:
