Terrible scenes in the north of England today:

Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire

I'm just a couple of miles from the South Yorkshire border but we've had virtually no rain today. Apparently Manchester and Leeds are under threat.

I know we've a few posters here living in these regions. Hope you're not caught up in it.

Yes, flooding in  northern parts of Greater Manchester, about 15 miles from where I live in south Manchester. The Metrolink tram from the bottom of my road is having to terminate prematurely before it reaches the waters. As I think I wrote in this thread, here we're earmarked for a once-in-a-hundred-years flooding by the Mersey, tho' 100 now probably equals 5 :(

**** Spoiled Californian Alert **** 43 here (that's 6c) and to me, it's freezing!

But there is snow in the Sierras.

That is something to celebrate!

We were at 81 and muggy yesterday, then the sun went down, the cold front moved through and we had a little mini-tornado fest (none in Plano, thankfully), then today it cooled off and started raining like hell, but only in fits and starts, but all day and expected overnight. Right now it's 41, and out to the west and up in the panhandle, they're expecting snow. Not expecting it here, but we will drop below freezing a few nights this week, and truthfully, I'd not be surprised if a few flurries made their way in.

We actually hit 70 last week, but it has finally started to cool back down.

Tons of rain, though. I-70 in St. Charles (10-15 minutes east of St. Louis) is closed due to flooding. That's a MAJOR artery severed during one of the most traveled weekend of the year...

My son goes to work earlier than I do, and he said it was snow-flurrying at 6:30 this AM. It wasn't quite cold enough to stick or accumulate, but sill...81 on Saturday, snow on Monday.

I know that what the north of England is experiencing is as nothing compared with the flooding (and other natural disasters) that happens elsewhere in the world; but when it's places you are familiar with and not that far away it really hits home.

Odd - the weather down here today was glorious. I suspect more Atlantic mayhem will be rolling in from points West tonight though..

Perfect blue here too. I think it was Ireland that was getting it today.

Wednesday is supposed to be awful...then clear skies at the end of the week.

Scotland seems to be bearing the brunt at present in Britain. Very windy here in the north Midlands but no rain...yet.

Conditions on the M4 to the West of Bath pretty atrocious today - was glad to get out of it.

Still bloody wet. This was York on Friday (8/1/16), two weeks after the worst of the flooding:

The last one is entitled "Northern Powerhouse"

Most of the city was back in business; but the area around Clifford's Tower where these were taken showed the effects - a line of small shops and cafes with floors up. skips filled with junk and men in high-vis jackets and hard hats (no, not caring Dave and George posturing!) everywhere.
