A Lark Ascending Posted December 26, 2015 Report Posted December 26, 2015 Terrible scenes in the north of England today: Mytholmroyd, West Yorkshire I'm just a couple of miles from the South Yorkshire border but we've had virtually no rain today. Apparently Manchester and Leeds are under threat. I know we've a few posters here living in these regions. Hope you're not caught up in it. Quote

Yes, flooding in northern parts of Greater Manchester, about 15 miles from where I live in south Manchester. The Metrolink tram from the bottom of my road is having to terminate prematurely before it reaches the waters. As I think I wrote in this thread, here we're earmarked for a once-in-a-hundred-years flooding by the Mersey, tho' 100 now probably equals 5 Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 27, 2015 Report Posted December 27, 2015 (edited) Glad to hear you're not immediately troubled, Bill. Edited December 27, 2015 by A Lark Ascending Quote

JSngry Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 We were at 81 and muggy yesterday, then the sun went down, the cold front moved through and we had a little mini-tornado fest (none in Plano, thankfully), then today it cooled off and started raining like hell, but only in fits and starts, but all day and expected overnight. Right now it's 41, and out to the west and up in the panhandle, they're expecting snow. Not expecting it here, but we will drop below freezing a few nights this week, and truthfully, I'd not be surprised if a few flurries made their way in. Quote
Scott Dolan Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 We actually hit 70 last week, but it has finally started to cool back down. Tons of rain, though. I-70 in St. Charles (10-15 minutes east of St. Louis) is closed due to flooding. That's a MAJOR artery severed during one of the most traveled weekend of the year... Quote
Shawn Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 It has actually felt like December this December in California. I've worn my coat more this month than I did in the past 3 winters combined. Quote
fasstrack Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 It's now December for real in NYC. Reprieve over. Brrr... Quote
JSngry Posted December 28, 2015 Report Posted December 28, 2015 My son goes to work earlier than I do, and he said it was snow-flurrying at 6:30 this AM. It wasn't quite cold enough to stick or accumulate, but sill...81 on Saturday, snow on Monday. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Floodwater surrounds houses in Cawood, North Yorkshire Flood waters reach the foot of Clifford’s Tower in York A view of Huntingdon Road and Yearsley Crescent covered by floodwater after the River Ouse and River Foss bursts their banks in York city centre I know that what the north of England is experiencing is as nothing compared with the flooding (and other natural disasters) that happens elsewhere in the world; but when it's places you are familiar with and not that far away it really hits home. http://www.theguardian.com/environment/gallery/2015/dec/27/flooding-northern-england-pictures Quote

sidewinder Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Odd - the weather down here today was glorious. I suspect more Atlantic mayhem will be rolling in from points West tonight though.. Quote

Scott Dolan Posted December 29, 2015 Report Posted December 29, 2015 Same here. We hit 70 last week, but are flooding really bad state-wide, and our high today was 32. Quote
Tim McG Posted December 30, 2015 Report Posted December 30, 2015 Cold and dry. Bring us more rain. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted December 30, 2015 Report Posted December 30, 2015 (edited) Another one of those weather maps: https://twitter.com/SimonOKing Wouldn't want to be in Iceland. Scotland seems to be bearing the brunt at present in Britain. Very windy here in the north Midlands but no rain...yet. Edited December 30, 2015 by A Lark Ascending Quote

fasstrack Posted December 30, 2015 Report Posted December 30, 2015 Cold as hell in NYC, and no heat where I'm sitting. Brrr.... Quote

paul secor Posted January 6, 2016 Report Posted January 6, 2016 After our unseasonably warm weather, the cold has hit minus 5 degrees the other night and below zero with the wind chill. But hey, it's January and it is supposed to warm up over the next few days. Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 (edited) Still bloody wet. This was York on Friday (8/1/16), two weeks after the worst of the flooding: The last one is entitled "Northern Powerhouse" Most of the city was back in business; but the area around Clifford's Tower where these were taken showed the effects - a line of small shops and cafes with floors up. skips filled with junk and men in high-vis jackets and hard hats (no, not caring Dave and George posturing!) everywhere. paul secor Posted January 10, 2016 Report Posted January 10, 2016 Heavy rain and wind, but not as bad parts of England now and parts of the U.S. Midwest last week. My heart goes out to people who suffered severe flooding. The rain here is supposed to end this evening. Quote
