Dan Gould Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Assuming there was some tax liability, getting a refund only signifies that you overpaid in witholding. The question is asking what your taxes were. Quote
wesbed Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 I'm not sure how much I PAID, between $5,000 and $10,000. I'm getting a $500 REFUND. Which means that the government had $500 too much of my money for several months. And paid me no interest to boot. Quote
minew Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 I'm paying way less than I should be. Acc. to TurboTax, my effective tax rate was 1.6%. I don't know how they run a country on that, much less two. Quote
RDK Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Which means that the government had $500 too much of my money for several months. And paid me no interest to boot. You think that's bad? We're getting over $10,000 back - which sounds great, but really means that we *way* overpaid. Quote
wesbed Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 You think that's bad? We're getting over $10,000 back - which sounds great, but really means that we *way* overpaid. Yeah. People often interpret a tax refund as a benefit. To me it's not. It lets me know that I could have purchased some more Mosaics had I had MY money that the government was keeping from me. Whether the refund be for $50, $5,000, or $10,000. Quote
vajerzy Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 We usually pay a little each year but we adopted our little girl in 2003 so we get a nice size refund this year- and 2004 as well. Quote
Tjazz Posted April 14, 2004 Author Report Posted April 14, 2004 And paid me no interest to boot. Aren't interest rates under 1%? Quote
wesbed Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 And paid me no interest to boot. Aren't interest rates under 1%? Man, I don't know. The interest rates have been so strange lately. However, my bank still pays me interest at a rate greater than zero percent. The government offers me zero percent for holding my money. Quote
connoisseur series500 Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 (edited) I don't really know the amount, but it's too much in my opinion. I pay someone to do my taxes and only pay attention to what I get back. I've since buried my returns in my documents box. Too lazy to dig it out right now. I'm bushed from work... Chuck Nessa Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 This looks like a "my dick is bigger than yours" thread. You can't win. If you pay a bunch you are a "creep" and if you don't pay much you are a loser. Dan, you could do better, on all fronts. Quote

Is there a missing smilie here or am I getting a rash of shit for no particular reason? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 Did anyone see a "smiley"? When I pay bills and taxes I feel a sense of "completion". I may be a sucker, but I usually feel good about my situation. I'm alive, I pay my bills on time, I pay my taxes and my wife and children are alive. That is as much as I can expect. BUT it ain't nobody's business. I think this is an insulting thread. Is that really a rash you have, or something more serious? Quote
Chuck Nessa Posted April 15, 2004 Report Posted April 15, 2004 BIG RETRACTION! I honestly thought this thread was started by "the fan of One Sound". I made a big ERROR and blamed the wrong person. Blame it on the drugs my doctor gave me after surgery today. Quote
Tjazz Posted April 15, 2004 Author Report Posted April 15, 2004 (edited) It's a poll. You don't have to put your name next to box that you checked off. You don't have to leave any comments either. If you want to post your tax figure, that's up to you. Course, I guess BIG BROTHER can see who checked off which box. You can insult as many people as want. Edited April 15, 2004 by Tjazz Quote
