romualdo Posted Sunday at 01:04 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:04 PM (edited) Burning Ambulance will be releasing a large swathe (4 venues plus) of the November '85 UK Braxton Quartet tour (12 venues, each with 2 sets ie 24 concerts) Sheffield (19/11), Leicester (20/11), Bristol (21/11) , Southampton (22/11) plus 4 soundcheck tracks (After the Rain, Four, All The Things You Are & On Green Dolphin St) - it will be the equivalent of a 9CD set. Looks like it's only downloads & will be available from June 4 - source material is Graham Lock's cassette recordings (tweaked by Chris Trent) so quality may not be up to the Leo releases (or were these from the same source?) Leo had previously released 3 of the 12 ie London (13/11), Birmingham (17/11) & Coventry (26/11) concerts as double CDs back in the 90s I've had the Coventry set since the early 90s & this tour (with Crispell, Hemingway & Dresser) is up there with Braxton's best recordings IMHO https://burningambulance.substack.com/p/anthony-braxton-80th-birthday-release?utm_campaign=email-half-post&r=2dyw1q&utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email https://burningambulancemusic.bandcamp.com/ Edited Sunday at 01:17 PM by romualdo Quote
mjazzg Posted Sunday at 01:42 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:42 PM When I asked about a CD edition I was told that that's what AB would like and "wait and see". I've had the London Leo since the late 80s I think and saw the quartet in '91 at the Jazz Cafe, very memorable Quote
Rabshakeh Posted Sunday at 05:58 PM Report Posted Sunday at 05:58 PM Strange that Willisau is still not available. Quote
mjazzg Posted Sunday at 06:50 PM Report Posted Sunday at 06:50 PM I thought Hat Art reissued it, going to check Just now, mjazzg said: I thought Hat Art reissued it, going to check Checked, yeah only the studio session was reissued. Maybe it didn't sell so haven't bothered with the live Quote

Hoping for that too BTW The Graham Lock book "Forces In Motion, England 1985" is the perfect accompaniment to these concerts https://www.amazon.com/Forces-Motion-Meta-reality-Creative-Interviews-ebook/dp/B07FFN3CNZ/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1217UR02YLSWS&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.50larZn263PGkW_EuXtE7PR-mW5nN65gkHrjwaRzNybir6IgtlskkJ7lpZWsTbvu8bBJoke5VcqOMNSIoCN38V56zwvrR2Gl9S19j2nDOxJoWyW1mRzz6wbg9Ta9lu3z7BOJjK0EalA_aEO4cIRE8rsn622isgKaw1YTB180MVk.ATmqNVbMHs4s1n34Yh9L2mfBpsfh1CU-gxlRmW3qNbY&dib_tag=se&keywords=graham+lock&qid=1745794846&s=books&sprefix=graham+lock%2Cstripbooks-intl-ship%2C380&sr=1-1 Quote
John L Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago So these are additional concerts with Crispell, Dresser, and Hemingway? Or is this in the standard series as would be suggested by the titles in the soundchecks? I also love the former quartet. Quote

These are additional to those previously released on Leo, different cities on the tour Here's the details https://anthonybraxton-bam.bandcamp.com/album/quartet-england-1985 Quote
colinmce Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago WXU sold the Hat catalogue to outnow before he was able to reissue the live portion of Willisau. I believe he may still be in possession of at least one quartet concert that he could reissue as First Visit if he so chooses. Quote

Don't remember when I bought it. Back of the box says 1992. Studio set says CD61001 & CD61002. Live set says CD61003 & CD 61004. Liner notes by Graham Lock. Quote

It is one of the les great classiques. Quote
