margolbe Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 Any news about any issues on either the RVG or Connoisseur front? The only RVG is Dialogue. Any news about Oblique, Medina, Patterns? Quote
mike casinghino Posted April 11, 2004 Report Posted April 11, 2004 (edited) if you are interested in later hutcherson blue note, i sent an e-mail to mosaic about a mosaic select with later b.h. albums, such as, cirrus, knucklebeans, head on, inner glow, etc. the reply said, it is not definite, but possible. if anyone out there is actually interested, send them an e-mail, it can't hurt. Shrdlu Posted April 12, 2004 Report Posted April 12, 2004 I'd love to hear the Hutcherson-Land albums that were issued under Land's name. As you know, the BN sessions were issued under Bobby's name. A Japanese CD of the "Spiral" and "Medina" sessions would be a groove. This music is terrific, and the present CD has very muddy sound with little presence. I have never heard a bad session by Hutcherson. What a consistently fine player! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 I believe you can still get "Patterns" on that old Conn CD. I see that fucker all the time! If it's OOP, I'll find one for $12 and send it your way. Now "Oblique" I'd like to see. That is one rare LP, that's for sure. Safe to say that "Happenings" has no normal issue at the moment, either... Quote
Deep Groove Posted April 13, 2004 Report Posted April 13, 2004 I'll take you up on a Hutch Patterns if you see one soon! I haven't been able to find it in any of the stores in my area. Thanks. Quote

Safe to say that "Happenings" has no normal issue at the moment, either... "Patterns" is still around here, too, I think (but far too expensive for your us-tastes). "Oblique" is a very good one (I have a burn thanks to a kind board member, never saw the disc). "Happenings", then, might be my favourite! And what a beautiful cover! It's one of four or five japanese discs I have (payed like 30$ for it, it's a TOCJ), and I really love it! ubu Quote
Tony Pusey Posted April 14, 2004 Report Posted April 14, 2004 Yes Michael, bring on the select!!! I dont care if its the sessions with Land or other later sessions (which I have never heard) I really do think that he is unjustly underated. Quote
BFrank Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I just picked up "Now!" which is MUCH more interesting than I was expecting. Great vocals, Harold Land is smokin' and even the (live!) LA Symphony tunes held my interest (I usually avoid strings when possible). Anyone else like this one? Quote
ianfaith Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 I really like "Now". Ordered it totally blind on the basis of the Hutcherson "brand" alone. When I later learned that it had vocals, I was a little worried. Should have known that Hutch would make it work. The vocals are intrinsic to the music – they sound like they belong there. There's a nice organic "vibe" (ouch) to it all, and the arrangements are terrific. A very nice surprise. Quote
mike casinghino Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 imo,"NOW" is an excellent album. i had no reservations, even with the vocals, about picking this cd up. i can't wait for a mosaic select of hutcherson's 70's albums! Quote
Chrome Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Can someone be a bit more specific about the vocals on "Now"? Are they actual songs? Or something closer to "A New Perspective" stuff? Quote
Stefan Wood Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 Between that and Lift Every Voice. Quote
MartyJazz Posted January 28, 2005 Report Posted January 28, 2005 How about a reissue of the great session TOTAL ECLIPSE? I've had this on LP for many years, never did get the CD when it was first issued (have a burn however). That is one terrific album, especially as it has Chick Corea before he was replaced in the group by Stanley Cowell. (Don't get me wrong, I love SPIRAL and MEDINA also). Quote

Just a question about Dialogue. Did hutcherson use a marimba on that session. Some guy said yeah, but listening to samples, all I hear is vibes. Quote

DrJ Posted January 29, 2005 Report Posted January 29, 2005 While they did get some Conns out as people are mentioning, and one RVG, most of Hutch's catalog is due for updated remasters again. Priority wise, given that the Conns aren't bad at all sonically, I'd vote for redoing the "regular" CDs first, in this order: OBLIQUE (this DEMANDS to be heard by my people, in my opinion far superior to HAPPENINGS - it would make a really nice "surprise" RVG in my view) TOTAL ECLIPSE HAPPENINGS (btw I think the JRVG of this one is horrible, one of the botched muffled jobs, so not a great option for anyone thinking about it) And I'd love to see later BN stuff get issued that hasn't seen daylight on CD, the Select would be fine as Mike outlines above. But honestly I'd prefer a "full" Mosaic of the Complete Hutch/Land Recordings (probably with a cut-off date) covering stuff for various labels, not just Blue Note. A pipe dream probably, but one can dream. Quote
