Misterioso Posted March 31 Report Posted March 31 Some interesting and entertaining memories from Kirk Lightsey: KIRK LIGHTSEY TELLS HIS STORY | Coming & Going Sorry if this has been posted before. Quote
Peter Friedman Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 I just read the entire set of posts by Kirk Lightsey. Highly interesting and filled with information, some of which is well known, and some others new to me. I was living in Detroit when I first heard Kirk Lightsey play live (1966 or 1967). Lightsey's 5 albums with Chet Baker on Prestige had greatly impressed me. When I learned Kirk was playing a trio gig at a local club, I made it a priority to go and hear him a few times. Those were truly enjoyable evening of fine jazz. The other 2 times I saw Kirk Lightsey play live were both in Toronto. Once at a club with the Dexter Gordon Quartet. Unfortunately, Dexter was not having a good night, but Lightsey and the rhythm section were dynamite. The second time was when Lightsey was playing solo at Cafe des Copains. Though Kirk played well, my preference is to hear him with a rhythm section. Quote
Dan Gould Posted April 3 Report Posted April 3 This looks like a great blog to thoroughly investigate, thank you for posting. Quote
