Son-of-a-Weizen Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Lifted from an eBay item description: Over the past few years I've watched copies of this CD sell at the established (non-Ebay) jazz auctions for between $65.00-$125.00. An average price expectation for dispossing of a mint copy of this CD at reputable jazz auction would average approximately $85.00. Where are these established/reputable non-eBay jazz auctions? Given the commanding presence of eBay, I'm a bit surprised that they haven't yet withered on the vine. Quote
J.A.W. Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 It's probably just a ploy to drive up the price. Quote
Stan C Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 When I read that sellers description of the Louis Smith I knew it was a load of bull. The Louis Smith CD as a Conn or TOCJ averages about $15-$20. Of course this is a seller who used to be a buyer picking up Total Ecplise and Tippin' the Scales CDs for close to $100 each. Quote
Son-of-a-Weizen Posted April 26, 2003 Author Report Posted April 26, 2003 (edited) The CD had been played before I bought it. Upon first inspection after purchase, the "play" side displayed under light some blemishing from use toward the outer edges--this had been disclosed before purchase but with the proviso that the CD played out perfectly; nonetheless, this still caused me initial concern. But lens inspection at my home laboratory showed that the blemishing has not truly cut into or worn away the surface integrity of the disc. Well, at least he's thorough....but geez, wonder what other unspeakable horrors are being visited upon those poor little cds in that lab of his ? Edited April 26, 2003 by Son-of-a-Weizen Quote
Out2Lunch Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Nice photos of your high school science project. Was it live or was it Memorex? Quote
Brad Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 It's too bad this is the only kind of attention Louis Smith is getting in these parts. He's made some excellent cds from Steeplechase. Among others, he's made a trumpet-piano duet cd called The Very Thought of You with Jodie Christian that is really excellent and Soon, with Andy LaVerne, Jimmy Greene (great unrecognized sax player) and Ray Drummond. Out2Lunch Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 Oh yeah? Well what about his album "Ballads For Lulu"? That's not too shabby either!!! Quote
Brad Posted April 27, 2003 Report Posted April 27, 2003 (edited) I'd like to pick up that one too. Just haven't done it yet. My previous post wasn't aimed at any one in particular but it's just a shame that he doesn't get any attention. Obviously, that has a lot to do with that he didn't make a lot of recordings after his few BN albums because of his economic situation. The guy has a beautiful tone and has made some nice really nice records. Edited April 27, 2003 by Brad Quote

Using his home lab to inspect blemishes on used CDs? Heck, I reserve "lens inspections at my home laboratory" for important things like judging the quality of internet porn. Quote
