mjazzg Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 This looks very interesting. It seems to have had an earlier download only release in 2021. This is claiming to be expanded https://michaelgregoryjackson.bandcamp.com/album/frequency-equilibrium-koan-expanded The label's previous reissues have been needle drops, but very well received quality-wise. Source for this is "superior"... Samples sound tasty Quote
colinmce Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 CD just showed up today, I'm looking forward to it. May have listened to the initial digital once or twice but don't remember it. A friend had talked with MGJ at that time about getting this out physically; that petered out but I'm glad someone else stepped in. Quote
T.D. Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 I noticed this a couple of weeks ago, listened to the available track on bandcamp/youtube. Interesting, but was not sufficiently impressed to buy. I have been cutting down on purchases lately, and probably would have pulled the trigger 6-12 months ago FWIW. Quote
felser Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 Do we know when this was recorded, and whether it wad live or studio? Quote
cliffpeterson Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 Back of the cardboard cover states: "Expanded edition! from new source material plus two unreleased tracks ... Recorded Live! at The Ladies' Fort, 2 Bond Street, NYC." I have an extra new, unsealed copy if someone is intereste-just pm me. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted March 24 Report Posted March 24 The initial digital version sounded pretty lo-fi, as I recall. Has this been cleaned up? Quote

The CD is nice enough-- a thin gatefold digipack with a photo and words by MGJ. The sound quality is more than passable. The music is very surprising, much less "loft" than a lot of what was happening, really almost a couple decades advanced and at many points more like something you would hear coming from FMP at that time. Very intense, very interactive. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 10 hours ago Report Posted 10 hours ago Yeah, picked up Cliff Peterson's spare and the sound is a vast improvement on the digital files that were up on Bandcamp previously. Michael Gregory Jackson is a very interesting composer and this disc certainly fills some gaps. Really glad that it's been cleaned up and released. Quote
