RIP to a musician who was interesting in all of his eras.  I especially enjoyed the Atlantic and the early Polydor albums, ca. 1967-1974.

In real time, I lost interest as the 70s wire on, and only regained some of it. But I know for a fact how immensely popular he was back in the day. In fact my single favorite Ayers cut was from that time!

So much great music.

He was the soundtrack to the Jazz Dance/Acid Jazz/Rare Groove scene over here in the 80s which where I first heard him. But the leader albums on Atlantic and the work with Mann became my favourite
