felser Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 They're dropping quickly now. Flack was 88, did some amazing, distinctive music on her early albums. mjazzg Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 (edited) Sad news but what a legacy she leaves. And as relevant today as back then And the duets with Donny, and Peabo Edited February 24 by mjazzg Quote
Mark Stryker Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 (edited) R.I.P. In the wake of her death, I just discovered this remarkable 30 minutes of footage from 1970. Bassist is David Williams, but I don't immediately recognize the drummer. Anyone know who it is? Edited February 24 by Mark Stryker Quote
mjzee Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 The biographic film that appeared on PBS's American Masters series a few years ago is worth searching out. RIP. Quote
sgcim Posted February 24 Report Posted February 24 Liked her duets with Donny Hathaway the best. RIP Quote
GA Russell Posted February 25 Report Posted February 25 RIP Roberta Flack! I saw her ca. 1970 in a club in Washington called Mr. B's. I remember that the bass player was Steve Novosel. The one song I remember her singing was a hit some time later by The Carpenters - Leon Russell's Superstar (Don't you remember you told me you loved me, baby?). Quote

Roberta and Steve were married for a while. Steve in his 80s but still active on the DC scene. I see him hanging out a lot. Quote
