Saw TC tonight at Yoshi's for the 2nd time. The 1st time was "borderline" but tonight was a total waste of my time & money. To be the Grandson of Doc Cheatham and possessor of great skill and ability, he's drenched in Electronics, singing birds, bells, whitles, commentary, pushing-pulling switches. Looked more like and electrician/sound man than a Jazz musician. After sitting still/motionless for 30 minutes, I left. Just my opinion.

To me, his music is just texture, and, for all the electronics that are designed to move jazz forward, his music seems very tepid and slightly behind the times. More impressive players were doing more daring work in the same area a decade ago.

To be honest though, I think his stylings just reflect what you need to do to get ahead as a younger jazz musician these days. I don't really blame Croker. But he's certainly not an artist who I am interested in seeing live.

Bingo.  I don’t mind the stylings, I do mind the lack of substance
