I send (say) $100, the payee gets $100, I pay exactly $100. The difference is that the money comes directly from my bank account rather than via other routes (say credit card). Ok, I'm going to need to look at what happens the next time I do it. Maybe it's the other way around...but sometimes I make a payment and add the stated amount of the fee to the final payment amount so the recipient doesn't get dinged. Quote

Jim, FWIW I just logged in to Paypal and copied the following: Sending and Receiving Money When you send money (initiated from the "Friends and Family" tab of the "Send Money" flow) to, or receive money into your PayPal account from, friends and family without making an underlying donation or commercial transaction (that is, the payment is not for the purchase of goods or services or for making any other commercial transaction), we call that a "personal transaction". The rates relating to personal transactions are set out below. Sending domestic personal transactions Fee Table: Sending domestic personal transactions Payment method Fee PayPal balance or a bank account No fee Cards 2.90% + fixed fee Amex Send™ Account No fee Visa+ transaction to Venmo Visa+-enabled digital wallets No Fee Visa+ transaction to non-Venmo Visa+-enabled digital wallets 1.75% A minimum fee of 0.25 USD A maximum fee of 25.00 USD Edited Sunday at 03:49 AM by T.D. Kevin Bresnahan Posted Sunday at 12:06 PM Report Posted Sunday at 12:06 PM I'm not a business, so I don't know if Venmo charges businesses 3% if they receive a payment, but in every Venmo transaction I've made, either sending or receiving, the money sent was the money received. I have never been dinged 3% for any Venmo money sent to me. My landscaper accepts Venmo and I've paid him that way several times. I doubt he'd accept it if he didn't get paid what I was supposed to pay. If I owe him $100, why would he accept a Venmo payment from me for $97? Maybe it's because I've ever had to use my credit card for payments? As for PayPal, I have always had payments get reduced by their fees. It's why I increase my asking price a bit for stuff I sell on-line. I know I'm going to get dinged, so I build that into my asking price. I don't use "Friends and family" for CD/LP sales on-line because you lose payment protection when you go that route & I'm pretty sure that in cases where you use your credit card for a "Friends and Family" payment, they charge you the 3% too. T.D. Posted Sunday at 01:06 PM Report Posted Sunday at 01:06 PM While on the Paypal site, I did notice that they have a set of rules for "Donations" that seem more prone to levy fees. Quote
sonnymax Posted Sunday at 02:03 PM Report Posted Sunday at 02:03 PM Venmo doesn't charge for sending money from a linked bank account, debit card, or your Venmo account. There's a 3% fee for sending money using a linked credit card. Additionally, instant withdrawals from your Venmo account incur a 1.75% fee, with a minimum of $0.25 and a maximum of $25. No fees for electronic withdrawals to your linked bank account that take a few days to complete. Quote
Holy Ghost Posted Sunday at 09:39 PM Report Posted Sunday at 09:39 PM Awful. I've met John Clayton at the airport once (he was wheeling his double bass) what a nice gentleman. So, so sad to hear what's going on there, I'm going to donate money to this tragic cause. Quote
