JSngry Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 09:41 PM RIP What was the correct pronunciation of his first name? Quote
mjzee Posted Wednesday at 10:25 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:25 PM Reading his Wikipedia page now; I had no idea he was American. Quite the discography. RIP. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barre_Phillips Quote
JSngry Posted Wednesday at 10:45 PM Report Posted Wednesday at 10:45 PM Didn't he do a RCA session with Sonny Rollins? One of the vault sessions? Maybe I'm wrong about that... Quote

OliverM Posted yesterday at 10:29 AM Report Posted yesterday at 10:29 AM RIP Very nicely written obituary in Le Monde, in French, for those who can access it, by Francis Marmande: https://www.lemonde.fr/disparitions/article/2025/01/02/mort-de-barre-phillips-passeur-de-contrebasse_6478722_3382.html Quote
clifford_thornton Posted 6 hours ago Report Posted 6 hours ago A great player whose artistry coursed throughout much of my listening. Glad to have seen him a couple of times, including a solo release concert for his final ECM solo album, though I didn't actually get the opportunity to speak with or thank him. I think he moved to Las Cruces a year or two ago. RIP. Quote
