Considering that I'm always looking for jazz Christmas stuff, I'm surprised that I just learned about this album today, although considering it's rarity, maybe I should not be surprised. It is available as a lossless download from Qobuz. Quote
danasgoodstuff Posted Sunday at 07:59 AM Report Posted Sunday at 07:59 AM That's nice, especially the baritone sax. I like the 10" he did for Blue Note, do they even still own that? Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted Sunday at 08:36 AM Report Posted Sunday at 08:36 AM Yes, that Yuletide record is very nice. Particularly at this time. (Though I am not sure I'd want to listen to ALL the 8 songs on Youtube in one go ). I had not been aware of the existence of this record before either. So thanks, TTK! Quote

Well, as someone who listens to 8 hours of vintage department store Christmas muzak, I can handle 8 Urbie Green Christmas tunes! 🤣 Quote

"X" was a branch of RCA Victor and used the same recording facilities. All the mainstream jazz sessions from the mid-fifties on these label sound great, often recorded with only one mcrophone in front of the band. These guys knew how to balance their sound without amplification and mixing. Seems like the Urbie Green Xmas album (mono from 1954) was never reissued. Great playing of a true all star band. I just tried and got the sound to work 👍. But the problem is just this: The (desktop!) PC I would be able to play this from is not near my living room or music rom but one flight down in my office. Inconvenient ... (no, no "smart"phone here for this ...) Edited Monday at 01:38 PM by Big Beat Steve Quote
Holy Ghost Posted Monday at 10:39 AM Report Posted Monday at 10:39 AM This on CD? If so, bought. Quote

Big Beat Steve Posted Monday at 01:38 PM Report Posted Monday at 01:38 PM (edited) All 8 tracks are on Youtube. For the time being, that's good enough for me. Considering that this LP apparently has never been reissued, my guess is we will have to wait for the Andorrans to do a CD reissue. They have reissued Urbie Green stuff before. Teasing the Korean Posted Monday at 01:46 PM Author Report Posted Monday at 01:46 PM You can download the tracks as Wav files from the InterTubes. That said, $8.49 for a rare 10" album in lossless format is a great deal. $6.99 for mp3 files is not necessarily a good deal. Quote
Daniel A Posted Monday at 05:04 PM Report Posted Monday at 05:04 PM It's also on Spotify (and I would assume yet other streaming platforms). Quote
