colinmce Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 Very sad to hear of the passing of the great Herb Robertson. A truly unique voice in this music, and in my estimation one of the best to ever do it on his instrument. RIP. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 Real bummer news. He was such a unique player. RIP. Quote
mjazzg Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 Very much enjoyed his performances on a number of JMT releases when I was first listening to Jazz. Saw him in London a couple of times. He was definitely an original and interesting player. Quote
Steve Reynolds Posted December 11 Report Posted December 11 One of the greatest “pure” improvisers there ever was. Saw him at a few amazing shows. With Evan Parker, Mat Maneri & Gerry Hemingway to name 3 great great performances. RIP, sir Quote

My favorite Robertson title on JMT: Shades of Bud Powell: Herb Robertson, trumpet, flugelhorn; Brian Lynch, trumpet; Vincent Chancey, French horn; Robin Eubanks, trombone; Bob Stewart, tuba; Joey Baron, drums, percussion. Joe Posted December 12 Report Posted December 12 Interviewed him many years ago: seemed like a really, really good dude. Wonderful and quite versatile player. Quote

colinmce Posted December 12 Author Report Posted December 12 Copper Press was a great magazine! Used to read it as often as I could get my hands on one. Quote
Guy Berger Posted December 14 Report Posted December 14 Dang. RIP. I’m mostly familiar with him via Tim Berne’s music Quote
