Peter Friedman
Back in about 1965 I was still living in Detroit. I used to go see the George Bohanon Quintet playing at a club, whose name escapes me. It was good hard bop oriented music.

RIP Thankfully, his full interview with us for The Best of the Best: Jazz from Detroit is 80 minutes long and will be part of a Jazz from Detroit Oral History Archive that we are creating. Sigh. sidewinder
Sad to hear this, RIP. I saw him on one occasion in the trombone section of a Gillespie Tribute big band back in the 90s. That section also had Jimmy Cleveland in it, if I remember rightly and Melba Liston was sitting in the section (but not playing). Will dig out his Motown/Workshop Jazz LP for a spin. Rabshakeh
I hadn't realised until today that George Bohanon was not The same person as disco hitmaker Bohannon. I had always struggled to understand why his discography was comparatively meagre. Edited November 11 by Rabshakeh
JSngry
Hamilton Bohannon was the hitmaker. Although considering the number of Motown dates George did, he probably was on more hits than Hamilton!

Plenty of other jazz guys had very successful disco careers at the time so it made sense to me, save that I couldn't understand why GB had so few leader dates if he was such a feature of the disco scene.
