RIP.

Just too bad the daily press and news obits reduce his work and accomplishments more or less to Michael Jackson. :w

And "We are the World."

The recent-ish documentary, which played like a two-hour trailer, also gave his jazz and film work the short shrift. At least Sinatra was mentioned.

Not on the BBC, so far the Jackson years have been mentioned but easily as much focus has been on his other work in film, with Sinatra and writing/arranging for big bands etc. I'm impressed by their coverage and hoping for some more in depth as they pull it together.

That aside, those Jackson albums are pretty damn important in recent-ish music history and definitely deserve the coverage.

They probably have no idea he had a jazz career all the years. If they know there is jazz, that is.

Yes.  Quincy Jones was quite the jazz whiz kid in the fifties. Time to spin the Mosaic set again.  And some of the Basie Roulette Studio set too.

Sorry to see this. I was at the station this afternoon
and informed the local DJ (who plays a lot of jazz on her show -
she's a big fan of Abdullah Ibrahim) about his death and
she was able to fit in some tunes.

I remember Albertson had some very unkind words about Q,
but no matter how "difficult" the guy may have been,
he left us a big bounty of music to enjoy.

... and, hey! he stuck around to 91!
