Rabshakeh Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 Gosh. RIP. Quite aside from the music he was perhaps the greatest interviewee ever. Quote
Hardbopjazz Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 RIP Quincy. Thanks for all you've given the world of music. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 RIP. Before I even knew his name, I knew his music through my Dad's copy of The Double Six of Paris's Capitol debut, which included all Quincy Jones arrangements. These four are real favorites. Quote
felser Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 RIP - talk about a wide-ranging career! A personal favorite: Quote
Big Beat Steve Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 RIP. Just too bad the daily press and news obits reduce his work and accomplishments more or less to Michael Jackson. Quote
John L Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 RIP. His impact on American music. was huge. Quote

Just too bad the daily press and news obits reduce his work and accomplishments more or less to Michael Jackson. And "We are the World." The recent-ish documentary, which played like a two-hour trailer, also gave his jazz and film work the short shrift. At least Sinatra was mentioned. Quote

Not on the BBC, so far the Jackson years have been mentioned but easily as much focus has been on his other work in film, with Sinatra and writing/arranging for big bands etc. I'm impressed by their coverage and hoping for some more in depth as they pull it together. That aside, those Jackson albums are pretty damn important in recent-ish music history and definitely deserve the coverage. Edited November 4, 2024 by mjazzg Quote
HutchFan Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 R.I.P. What a life & musical career! Quote

They probably have no idea he had a jazz career all the years. If they know there is jazz, that is. Quote

rostasi Posted November 4, 2024 Report Posted November 4, 2024 Sorry to see this. I was at the station this afternoon and informed the local DJ (who plays a lot of jazz on her show - she's a big fan of Abdullah Ibrahim) about his death and she was able to fit in some tunes. I remember Albertson had some very unkind words about Q, but no matter how "difficult" the guy may have been, he left us a big bounty of music to enjoy. ... and, hey! he stuck around to 91! Quote
