Geezer Question #67

Recommended Posts

I heard Ravi just once — in the summer of 2000 (July, iirc) at whatever jazz fest was at Penn Valley Park in Kansas City back then (Kansas City International Jazz Festival, probably).

Strong set, iirc — just a quartet.  Reminded me more of Joe Henderson than of his dad — which I kinda liked, actually.

Saw him with the quartet in a large  Montreal club .  Before June'65 but not sure when.  I sat on the side of stage next to Elvin so I   couldn't hear Jimmy.  I don't remember anything except that I was enthralled.

I think "Geezer" might have a different meaning over here, a bit shady, on the make possibly illegally, with an element of roguish charm. Maybe not!

"Old geezer" is specific and slightly different. An old one of those above but more commonly generically used for old man, affectionately

Divided by a common language again...

Saw Ravi a couple times but never John or Alice (duh). I agree, Ravi doesn't sound all that much like his dad. But that's a subject for another thread!

I heard Ravi kinda live (live streamed due to weather) at the last Detroit Jazz festival doing a tribute to Alice with Brandee Younger and a string section. Mention was made of an upcoming tour, so check your local newspapers.

It weren't none too bad!
