There is so much with the Kenton band that is superb, as Larry has mentioned; and then there is the great playing on the Storyvilles etc. The hard- heads around Tristano give/gave 1955 as the cut-off date. After that his playing started to change, gradually at first - by 1960 it is obvious. This is not to say that, with the right band, there were not flashes of the "old" Lee, but they gradually became fewer and fewer. Just what caused that is open to question ...

Interested I views on the nonet albums and their respective merits. 

I had some good fun with Yes Yes, Nonet yesterday evening, although at times it is like listening to a piano trio with a rotating cast of saxophones sitting in.
