Very glad Wilyer Abreu got a Gold Glove (and as a rookie, no less).  His defense was terrific and his hitting more than acceptable, with room for improvement.  If he gets packaged for some immediate improvement like a pitcher or RH power hitter, I'll be annoyed, most likely.

Abreu recorded seven Outs Above Average, tied for first in MLB with Brewers outfielders Jackson Chourio and Sal Frelick. Abreu led the Majors in Defensive Runs Saved by a right fielder with 17, and his nine assists tied Hunter Renfroe and Juan Soto for most at the position.

So when I read that Cole opted out of his deal and then the Yankees 'brought him back' I assumed they had rolled over and added a $36 million dollar salary on an extra contract year, per the deal they signed him to five years ago.

Now it turns out the Yankees said "fine, you've opted out" and Cole said "but I don't wanna be a free agent" and everything goes on as if he never opted out???

What a crock of shit. You opt out, the contract is null and void. No "I crossed my fingers" bullshit. If he wants to return to the Yankees, new contract, from scratch. 

This is total bullshit.

Yawn indeed—he was a landslide unanimous winner, first Yankee to do that since Mickey Mantle after his triple-crown 1956 season. Bobby Witt Jr (who’ll win one himself, sooner rather than later) was a unanimous pick for second place.  
Ohtani was a unanimous pick as well on the NL side and becomes the twelfth player in MLB to win three times, and only the second to win in each league (preceded by Frank Robinson).

Was anybody expecting ANYBODY else in either league?

Too bad they both disappeared for the Series.

It must be hard for a non-fan of either/both of these teams to realize how impossible it's been to avoid them both, thanks to MLB'S relentless saturation hype pretty much straight throw from the preseason on.

It's like jazz news that's all about Miles and Coltrane 24/7. Obviously they're important and obviously there's a market, but the last time I even thought about listening to Kind Of Blue was...at least a decade ago. I know how it goes.

So nothing personal, but yes, yawn.

Allen...people forget (or just don't know) how "controversial" a personality he was. "Outspoken" it was called then...

You're right about Dick Allen. I always liked him, though. I remember at one point when he was playing first base and was heckled by fans, he would scratch "BOO" into the dirt next to the base with his cleat.

Anything that hurts the Yankees gets thumbs up from me, but may the Mets know nothing but pain.  I am guessing the reporting will be the Mets kept bidding and that's how they got him.  He is a Boras client after all.

 

Now, my guess is that the Yankees get Teoscar Hernandez as their consolation prize, overpaying and outbidding the Red Sox. Maybe I am wrong and the Red Sox do get him as he is reportedly intrigued by taking aim at the Green Monster.

I got no problem with Dick Allen and Dave Parker getting to the HoF, but am curious if there was any decent support El Tiante or no.

Yankees get Cody Bellinger, but which version? The comeback player or the rather mediocre one from last year?

A huge part of the answer, at least offensively, is whether this time a lefty power hitter takes advantage of the home park.  Consider Rizzo and Verdugo from very recent history - there's no guarantee.
