ghost of miles Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Florida board members have definitely been in my thoughts these past few days. Live updates: Hurricane Milton still pounding Florida after carving path of destruction Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 We made it through. Downed branches were the worst of it. Very different a few miles southwest of where we are. Quote

Teasing the Korean Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Oh, just realized, I was talking about Dan as in @Stonewall15. He is fine. If you were asking about Gould, I don't know. Quote

Jason Bivins Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Very grateful to hear our Floridians are okay. Quote
rostasi Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Yes! Good to hear this! Hopefully, there isn't much cleanup for you guys. Quote
Kevin Bresnahan Posted October 10 Report Posted October 10 Dan has posted pictures of some damage to his barn on Facebook but other than that, he sounds like he weathered it ok. He says, “Horses and people ok”. Quote

Brad Posted October 11 Report Posted October 11 Good to hear that you all survived this mostly ok. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 12 Author Report Posted October 12 As Kevin reported we made it thru ok. No power and only one generator that will run, which is a problem for the relatives. Hoping to have replacement part for generator tomorrow and expect to have barn damage repaired also. Then it's waiting for power and securing gas for generators in meantime. With one generator going we can get pump turned on for water at the expense of shutting down fridge and fans in the house. Blessing is that Temps fall to mid 60s at night. Comfortable sleeping weather and house not getting brutal during day. Quote
Teasing the Korean Posted October 12 Report Posted October 12 Taking advantage of fleeting connectivity. Still no power. We have water but are under a boil notice (fairly useless without a sterno). We should have power by Thursday the 17th. I drove around our neighborhood for the past two days, and the number of downed trees from a Cat 2 hurricane was sobering. If something similar occurs - and it will, sooner or later - we will likely evacuate, even if not mandatory. Quote
rostasi Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 As parts of Florida went dark from Helene and Milton, the lights stayed on in this net-zero, storm-proof community. Quote
GA Russell Posted October 13 Report Posted October 13 I'm so glad that the losses for everyone here were limited to inanimate objects. I gather from the absence of comments that no one has a flooding problem. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 14 Author Report Posted October 14 This is getting pretty ridiculous. Police escorts for fuel trucks. Line workers spotted midday very close by. No change in status. TECO says Thursday for virtually all of Hillsborough County. I think we may play chicken with them on gas for generators until then. My wife drove 4 hours to her mom's just to increase gas cans by 50%. Quote
jazzbo Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 I would just say be patient. It took seven days for me to have power restored a few years ago, and that was not even in a hurricane or tornado. With all the destruction crews from all over the country will be working and it is going to take time. Quote
rostasi Posted October 14 Report Posted October 14 Yeah, it takes a lot of patience and ingenuity with these things. Our streak in the last storm was nine days. That's why we got a generator shortly after when we spotted a 50% sale. Being Texas - and selfishly on our own separate grid - screams red flags. Quote
Dan Gould Posted October 15 Author Report Posted October 15 Power came on about 5:00 yesterday afternoon, and when I re-set the house and the non-paying boarders for long extension cords and fans and the rest of it, I discovered that with TECO power restored, so was Spectrum internet. So its back to work this morning, can't say I am excited about it but on the other hand, it avoids giving the boss any ideas that I wasn't really missed all that much. The best part of the power restoration was that within 30 minutes of when it happened I was going to be rolling out the generator at the house to the well pump to re-fill 100 gallon tank of water for the horses among other things. That is no fun and the longer you have to do it the more exhausting it is. And cold showers into steamy houses that don't have fans running is no bueno either. So, we will finally prioritize a third generator of some sort so that we can have a pump-dedicated one that doesn't move once its wheeled out there. Quote
