Rabshakeh
Are there any examples of bebop whistling solos? I mean mouth whistling, not a penny whistle or slide whistle etc. Seems like the kind of thing that Slim Gaillard or the AEC might have done. But I can't think of any examples. Specifically solos. mjazzg
I've definitely come across recordings where whistling is credited, one quite recently but can't fit the life of me remember what they are at the moment. Also unlikely to be Bebop, more likely recorded on Emanem or similar...
Rabshakeh
Bebop or free or even swing. Basically an extended jazz quality solo, produced by puckered human lips.
Teasing the Korean
There was at least one real "jazz whistler." I remember seeing him on Johnny Carson. He was good, or so my younger self thought. Of course, he didn't have much competition. I can't remember his name. Anyone? JSngry
I'm sure if you look hard enough you could find something by Toots Thielman.

T.D.
ISTR Rahsaan doing some (lip) whistling. Can't recall the tune/album or whether it was credited, but I don't think it was a bebop number.

Yeah, harmonica is far from my favorite instrument, but I LOVE Toots's contributions to those early-70s Q albums. The Shearing Quintet sides with harmonica, not so much... Peter Friedman
I like some of the Toots Thielman records. Especially this one on Riverside

Especially this one on Riverside I bought this for Kenny Drew years ago. Turned me away from Toots forever. Maybe there are others I'd like but not going back to that decision.
