Anybody got a line on anywhere that has this cheaper on CD?? ($33 is kind of highway robbery, if you ask me.) I streamed it yesterday while walking, and txt’d a friend that Jack D really shines (first thing I said), and that Joe was really on fire too — that first song especially. Totally agree, but I just caved and ordered one from mega-eBay seller get_importCDs — who has an automatic 25% off two or more items going thru the end of today/Sunday (and I got something else for my wife). So with get_importCDs’ free shipping, the McCoy/Joe ended up being $28 plus sales tax — and the other title for my wife ended up essentially matching Amazon’s current quite cheap price (of $11). But, yeah, even $28 is pretty damn high, imho — though I understand the packaging has quite extensive liners (but still, $28, sheesh!!) Sounds like they have deluxe packaging and booklet. I'm listening to this now on spotify. Some good playing but the bass is boomy and I guess amplified with a pickup. So to me it is bass heavy and worse, the amplification erases the natural tone and character of the bass, sounds like an electric bass. There is a general sense of recording level set too high, everything muddy and edging into distortion. Not totally sure I will listen to this more than once, may not buy... Postscript: I cannot even make it through the whole album on spotify! The bass is too overwhelming and ruins it for me. Because of the amplification the bass sustains strongly, so there is no drop off in volume between notes, just a continuous thumping behind the horn and drums. Plus the dynamics generally are bad: everybody (except the piano) playing as loud as they can all at once. Won't be buying this, though these are some of my favorite musicians.
