Classic V-Disc Small Group Jazz #279 – 11 CDs

Perhaps. I know there has been in my case in the past. I had to notify them I paid via PayPal once and they had to poke around til they found my order, two weeks or more after the shipping had begun.

It's all good. It's just exciting to anticipate a shipping notice. The anticipation is tempered now in that they seem to announce a set, very soon after shipping begins. There have been times we waited considerably longer before shipping after a set was announced.

Oh, oh mine says "completed" but I don't see a tracking number and haven't gotten a shipping notice. Should I worry?

On the page with your orders, on this latest order there should be a line labeled Actions with a button labeled VIEW.  Click it and that order comes up.  Scroll down and under order updates you should see something like this:

They don't label the tracking number as such.

My apologies if you did all that and still no tracking number!  If so I would write to info@mosaicrecords.com

Mine, despite no tracking movement, arrived this afternoon. Haven't opened the carton though as at the same time a pressure washer my wife wanted arrived and I have had to assemble it, show her how to use it, hold the ladder for her, etc. and am enjoying a quick break. . . .

Had just enough time to open the box and see that my number is the same as the model number of what used to be my favorite type of Levi's, 501.

I just got mine yesterday. Set 994. I'm impressed and happy if Mosaic has sold 1000 sets so quickly. I know we've talked about sets not necessarily going out in the number they are ordered, but if in fact, they've sold 1000 sets that's very good news.

I have always really loved the Fats Waller V-Disc Session.   But I was a bit disappointed that Mosaic left off 3 tracks from this session: The Ladies Who Sing With the Band, To A Wild Rose / Don't Get Along Anymore, and St. Louis Blues.  The Mosaic discography correctly lists them as "unissued" by V-Disc.  But they have appeared on other releases, including the JSP complete Fats Waller series.   Mosaic also omitted another track commonly thought to be from this session, By the Light of the Silvery Moon, claiming that the track actually comes from a radio broadcast.

Well I think their logic makes sense to me. If they were never issued as a V-Disc, they are not V-Discs. They are consistent in this set in not including "unissued" items. And are you disputing their claim that the "Silvery Moon" item came from a radio broadcast?

I have all the JSP volumes (as well as all the King Jazz) and don't fel I need to have these on this Mosaic set following their logic.

Lon - I didn't understand that as the logic.  There are actually a lot of tracks on this set recorded at V-Disc sessions that were never issued on V-Disc.

I am certainly not disputing their claim that "Silvery Moon" came from a radio broadcast.

Okay I looked at it closely as I can while my wife is blaring the Browns game, and editorializing, and there are more unissued takes not included on this set than included. . . some of the included are spoken introductions and interesting sound check tracks. I am not sure of the entire reasoning, I have not had (and won't for a while) time to go through the booklet. Those tracks that ARE included that were previously issued appear to be alternates to issued tracks mostly if not all. So that may be the reasoning. If one performance was issued and there is an unissued alternate, they include it. Which is good.

Likely the driving motivation is to keep the set to 11 cds and not more, the reason other sessions were not included as well.

I won't miss the missing Waller as it is elsewhere in the collection.

OK.   I guess that I had assumed that unissued tracks were omitted only if the music was lost.   But the Fats Waller case is a counterexample to that.

By the way, they include Stealin' Apples in the box from a Peanuts Hucko session of May 14, 1947 from which no V-Discs were issued.   So that would seem to be a counterexample to your hypothesis as well.,
