Just in case, over here in yurp, a.it has the set for 20€

Looking forward a lot to having these concerts in their entirety and in good sound, with good presentation.

Just ordered, thanks.  $44.22 delivered to USA.  Worth wading through the Italian on the site!

A Dutch webshop carried this for €60 and I decided to go for it. I 've noticed that that some of the oop sets in the Bootleg-series fetch ridiculous prices, and I didn't want to take any risk. Not with this music. The promise to deliver it within 24 hours to my doorstep helped too.

As a set it's a nice enough, although the packaging is only so-so. The case is less than sturdy and removing the cds is a challenge - at least if you don't want to tear up the gatefolds. Best to hold them up slightly and let gravity do part of the job, I guess. The booklet contains some nice black-and-white photos and two brief interviews with Ron Carter and George Coleman, but I found the main essay by Marcus J. Moore disappointing. No new insights there.

But I'm three cds in and the music is fantastic-  of course. Audio too leaves nothing to be desired. If you buy a set this fall, make it this one.

I don't know. I got mine from Japan and it was "a limited edition" and is no longer available for sale from cdjapan.

So would the bean counters consider that a Japanese sale or an American sale

It's a data point, nothing more. I just wonder how it gets logged as such for if and when the question gets asked where's the markets for stuff like this?.

I have no idea. The two persons I corresponded with and could make inquiries like this to have now both passed on, sadly.

I would think though that if anyone has a handle on the sales in the Japanese market and what that means for the market in Japan it is Sony Japan.

I don't think anyone here has that answer. You could see if you can get an answer from amazon perhaps.

I would think the more useful information might be for Sony to obtain and report. . . they would be the final decider on what material they own to reissue and they would know what quantities they shipped to each amazon store and other vendors. If these items are really "limited" (I think ultimately they are) if they sell out or don't should be useful information that Sony possibly collects via requests or lack thereof for further shipments, or requests from their clients.

Exactly. How does Amazon log sales from, for example, sales to US buyers by, for example, Amazon Italy?

If the Amazon Italy price is so much less simply due to exchange rate, that's one thing. But if there's another factor(s) involved, that would be interesting. Like if the deal with the estate pays a different royalty on EU sales than US sales or something like that.

I din''t get that impression. But honestly, who do you think HERE in this little internet island has an answer? Chuck MIGHT, and I'd value any info or impressions he might add, but. . . that's about it.

When I have these sort of questions that I want answers to, I do some research elsewhere, like querying amazon or Sony. If I can't easily get a response from those quarters. . . I usually decide I'm not meant to know and move on.

Just got my copy today. I'm looking forward to listening to it but I wish the packaging/presentation was better. The case seems quite flimsy. We're a long way away from the Seven Steps box...  But... first world problems.

I think the packaging reflects the emphasis on this being part of the "Bootleg Series". All of the previous sets have been in minimal cardboard 'boxes'.

Just got mine today and it's actually the nicest series packaging to date

I agree - The packaging is fine. Not up to the sturdiness of the metal case sets but for the Bootleg Series it is as good as or better than previous sets.

The essays didn't really tell me anything I didn't already know but that is a minor point.

Sound quality well up to standard and the music is - as expected - superb.

For anyone who has ordered the 'Italian Version' - this set is as per regular issue with notes in English. Well done Amazon Italy for offering the deal - no doubt it will come down significantly in price elsewhere at some stage. My set took 2 days to arrive from Italy - I'm assuming that it didn't physically travel that far and that they made a logistics arrangement with that distant trading partner the UK.

I don’t think anyone here would know the answer, especially as to the relationship between Sony and the estate on the one hand and Sony and its retailers on the other, not to mention possibly existing distribution agreements between Sony and its distributors who would then have their own arrangements with retailers.

Based on my experience, income is recorded at point of sale but sales tax (which you’re not asking about) could be based on buyer’s location.

This is all accounting which I think is beyond the knowledge of most here, unless we have an accountant in our midst.
