brownie Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 This may be old news to some but I caught this today only. Can't wait to see that film B) Nicole Kidman and J-Lo to team up as white female swing musicians LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Oscar-winner Nicole Kidman and US diva Jennifer Lopez will team up on the big screen to play members of a groundbreaking white female swing band in pre-World War II America. Entertainment industry bible Daily Variety said the unlikely duo had signed up for the period drama "American Darlings," which Australian Kidman has been championing and which she will executive produce. The movie, which has been bought by Hollywood's New Regency films, tells the story of two women who shatter the race and gender barriers of the 1930s by joining forces with black and Hispanic musicians to conquer the male-dominated night-club scene. The movie, which has yet to be written, will be produced by partners Craig Zadan and Neil Meron who were responsible for 2002's Oscar-winning musical "Chicago," of which Kidman was a big fan. There also is a report that both actresses will sing in the film Quote
Guest Chaney Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 Reading the film summary, any music historians here know if this is based upon fact or are we dealing with Hollywood's historical revisionism? Quote
Jim Alfredson Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 I like the fact that it isn't even written yet. I'm sure it'll be great.... Quote
brownie Posted April 8, 2004 Author Report Posted April 8, 2004 The story line reads all wrong. But if they hire Mel Gibson to direct, then the Truth will be told Quote
neveronfriday Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 The story line reads all wrong. But if they hire Mel Gibson to direct, then the Truth will be told Yes! Extreme Kidman and Lopez flogging. Sounds cool to me. Cheers! Quote
A Lark Ascending Posted April 8, 2004 Report Posted April 8, 2004 (edited) Perhaps they'd like to ask me to do the screenplay. I visualise this great scene where they go on tour in Europe and wind up at a club called Minton's in Helsinki where the see bebop being born. Might go some way towards making up for that U-Boat/enigma machine film! Edited April 8, 2004 by Bev Stapleton Quote
