cayetano Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 October 4, 7 LP box-set. https://www.soundohm.com/product/complete-palm-recordings Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 so 4 original albums, one of which is a double LP, plus a track from the Anthology, and what else fills out the set? Curious. I have the originals but I could be tempted to pick this up. Quote
cayetano Posted August 2 Author Report Posted August 2 (edited) I don't have any originals but according to discogs "Us" was one vinyl + one 7". Edited August 2 by cayetano Quote
felser Posted August 2 Report Posted August 2 Sigh. I'd probably would be in for CD or even download. I believe some of this is available on individual CD's. Quote

mjazzg Posted August 4 Report Posted August 4 (edited) CD purchase for me too I think. Mind you these Palm reissues all end up on streaming too. I'm guessing by the general enthusiasm that these are all well regarded albums? My knowledge of Lancaster is inexplicably poor Edit to add: looks like they're available individually, and also currently streaming in BC Edited August 4 by mjazzg Quote

Regardless it is interesting music and will be a welcome set, especially if it includes additional music. Quote
JSngry Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 I saw him playing bass clarinet in a Leroy Jenkins group and his instrument didn't have a bell on it. That was odd. But he played great! Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 yeah, the one time I saw him was excellent -- quartet with Harold E. Smith, Ed Crockett, Bert Smith, and Rufus Harley sat in along with his son Messiah. Pretty far out. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 Update: four proper LPs and the music from one 7" and a Gilson Anthology track spread across 7 records, so they've obviously maximized sides in odd ways. No newly unearthed music. The booklet is probably pretty cool, given Pierre's way with words and a heap of rare photos. I might get it just because my Mother Africa pressing is kinda noisy and I want the book, but... Quote
Pim Posted August 5 Report Posted August 5 This is great news. Very satisfied with the Baikida Carroll they reissued. Truly a beautiful reissue. Not familiar with these records but I do consider myself a Byard Lancaster aficionado so I’ll probably get this. It’s great anyway that there are still labels that are reissuing the more obscure jazz Quote

Not Squidco, and Dusty Groove will probably not have enough copies to go around. Forced Exposure seems to be about the only place I know of that reliably stocks the Souffle Continu CDs. Quote
l p Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 still, it would've been nice if there was new material on this box. byard fans already have all this previously issued stuff. Quote

l p Posted August 7 Report Posted August 7 the only palm thing i know about is 'lovingkindness' unissued extracts. "was intended for palm 14 but not released". 35 minutes. work and pray raw mix work and pray different version. same guitar(?) rib crib I mix, with added instruments, and some instruments missing. rib crib II raw mix so really, just the 2nd item is new. but they (palm) must have more. or maybe it's all lost after all these years. cliffpeterson Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 The individual cds are available for preorder at Dusty Groove and Forced Exposure Quote

I don't know if tapes survived. Quote
l p Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 (edited) there's a fascinating thing about byard, maybe unique. i know from 2 sources that byard used to send tapes of his unissued music (concerts/studio) to fans. i know of people in uk, and usa who have received such gifts. and not just 1 or 2 tapes, but like 10-20 tapes. would love to find a 3rd person who's received such treasures. clifford_thornton Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 Cool! Someone has them still, for sure. Quote
clifford_thornton Posted August 13 Report Posted August 13 Mike Hames' print discography apparently listed a ton of sessions. I've not actually laid hands on a copy but would love to see one. Quote
