Albert Ayler/Don Cherry

Trying to track down all their work together, it is so good. I have:

New York Eye and Ear Control

Vibrations/Ghosts

Hilversum Sessions

Jazzhus Montmartre 9/3/64 as part of the Revenant Box

There are three radio tracks from 9/10/64 I have as a download. It seems they are combined on two different Hatology CDs, one paired with Hilversum, one paired with 9/3/64.

I would consider getting the latter just to have the three tracks, if I can find a reasonably-priced copy. But before I do that, I am wondering if there is any other material out there from their European tour? This French book I have on Don Cherry refers to a date on Philology on 11/5, also from Jazzhus. Has that ever been on CD? I don't even see it in the discographies. Thanks!

I believe this is erroneously dated on the Philology LP. It is from 9/26/64, the total of which was released on The Copenhagen Tapes (Ayler)/Copenhagen Live 1964 (hatOLOGY)/European Recordings Autumn 1964 Revisited (ezz-thetics)

OK, so that Autumn 1964 on Ezzthetics has Hilversum, the tracks from 9/10 and tracks from 9/26 which I do not have. But it does not have the tracks from 9/3, or is 9/3 an incorrect date also? I will check song titles later, obviously there is overlap.

It sounds like 9/26 is an entire session I do not have, so the 2-CD set is worth acquiring since I only have the Hilversum session. That is exactly what I was trying to figure out, if there was any other material elsewhere.

Curious as to why the 9/3 date was not included in the 2-CD set.

So, to summarize, a hypothetical complete Ayler/Cherry box would include:

New York Eye And Ear Control

Vibrations/Ghosts

Hilversum Sessions

Jazzhus 9/3/64

Danish Radio 9/10/64

Jazzhus 9/26/64

There are probably more recordings that have not surfaced...

Update:

OK, looking at the Revenant Box, which gives 9/3 as the recording date for Jazzhus, the track list is the same as for the 9/26 session and the timings are all very close (Saints is listed as Tune Q).

I am pretty sure these are the same session, in which case the CD I need is the 9-track single CD on Hatology.

PS: They are also both sidemen on the 11/17/65 Sunny Murray session. Not a big fan of that one.

The Revenant book discography notes "Don Cherry's presence on this recording casts some doubt on whether it in fact was made during the group's Nov. engagement".

Late Oct - early Nov: "Without Don Cherry, Ayler returned to Copenhagen for an engagement that may have been a full week or more, definitely beginning after Oct. 18"

The Lord Discography extract (see above) still lists that date

Buried down at the bottom it also says: “A 2-CD issue is announced for September 2024, it should be available at  Squidco.com (USA),  jazzmessengers.com (Europe), Diskunion.net (Japan), Ajazz &  jpc.de(Germany)” — and presumably(?) elsewhere.

all material previously released (on CD) as far as I can see, some sessions more than once - probably best way if you are interested in download only

Most Ayler afficonados will already have this material on some physical medium (CD/LP)

I thought this new Hat Hut Series (First Visit Completed) comprised of previously unreleased material
