Daniel A Posted July 22 Report Posted July 22 Not sure if this has been posted before, but I hadn't seen it until a few minutes ago. What surprised me was to hear Grady Tate play such a heavy backbeat as early as 1965 (never realized this album was recorded then). Quote
RiRiIII Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Thank you. IIRW, there is also a 1 or 2 hour documentary on the RVG studio shoot by the German TV back in the sixties. It was also commercially available on DVD within a package with more films by the director of this Blue Note/RVG documentary. Quote
Pim Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Thanks for sharing. Lovely footage. I wish there was more video footage of recordings at the van Gelder studios. Quote

Rooster_Ties Posted July 23 Report Posted July 23 Seeing this clip, I’m astounded at the proximity of the cars (headlights) passing by the studio barely a couple hundred feet away — out the window. How in the hell did the sound of traffic not f’ things up royally, and with some frequency?? It’s a recording studio, for cripe’s sake!! Quote

RiRiIII Posted July 24 Report Posted July 24 I am watching the DVD right now. It is really great, and I cannot avoid to dream what we could watch if German TV was there more often. What else was being recorded around that date? This RVG studio session took place on December 16, 1965. https://www.jazzdisco.org/verve-records/catalog-8600-series/#v-v6-8641\ V/V6-8641 The Incredible Jimmy Smith - Got My Mojo Workin' 1966 Jimmy Smith, organ; Kenny Burrell, guitar; Ben Tucker, bass #1,2; Ron Carter, bass #3,4; Grady Tate, drums; Oliver Nelson, arranger, conductor.
