medjuck
I just read about this. It's a two 12inch Lps to be played at 45rpm. Is this a thing now? (Makes sense, I guess.)
JSngry
Does it have "The Sky Fell Down"?
jazzbo
Yes it does. https://store.acousticsounds.com/d/188634/Duke_Ellington-Ellington_Indigos-45_RPM_Vinyl_Record Edited June 18 by jazzbo
medjuck
I'm presuming these are 12" records, but I don't see where the say this in their advertising. I'm tempted to buy it but I don't have a very good turntable and I already own 3 cd versions of "Ellington Indigos". (I got it from the Columbia Record Club when it was new and it was the first of the 100s of Ellington releases I've bought since.) mjazzg
At risk of slightly derailing this, I'm now streaming an 'Expanded' version of this album on Tidal and loving it, my first time hearing this music (yes, I know). It includes 6 extra tracks including a vocal 'Strange Feeling', 'Coloratura' and 'Cop Out' but I'm having trouble finding a physical release on discogs that includes the extra tunes. I'm assuming they're from the same sessions? Anyone know of a physical release that includes them? I'm a complete Ellington neophyte so forgive me if I'm missing something obvious
jazzbo
I think that those three are earlier tracks, from '45, '52 and '57 respectively, added to that streaming version. I don't know if they match up to a cd reissue version, haven't seen one.

Odd that they are added on the version I listened to but that's streaming services for you.
jazzbo
I don't stream so I'm not sure but I've noticed a few things like this, compilations with some selections that seem ringers.
Mark Stryker
Answering the opening question: Audiophile LP reissues mastered at 45 rpm have been a thing for a long time. Edited June 18 by Mark Stryker

JSngry
A version of Cop Out made it out on Festival Seedion There was also a 45 of it.

That's a LONG version -- too long, really. Gonsalves was often great at sustaining extended solos, but not every time ... JSngry
Was that take edited for the 45 or was it s different take? Maybe it was a 45 or maybe it was on one of those CSP samplers? Either way, there's a shorter version out there.
medjuck
There's a"Jazz Beat" release called "The Complete Ellington Indigos" with 19 tracks including several alternates, "The Sky Fell Down" and "Love (My Heart, My Mind My Everything"). IIRC the original Lp release had an abbreviated version of Autumn Leaves minus the part sung in French. Edited June 18 by medjuck

Wow! I haven't looked at or listened to that disc in that box set in a long time (I have two LP and two cd versions of "Indigos" outside this box). Should fix that. 1 minute ago, medjuck said: There's a"Jazz Beat" release called "The Complete Ellington Indigos" with 19 tracks including several alternates, The Sky Fell Down and "Love (My Heart, My Mind My Everything).
