Monk Liner Notes

This is for my book on Prestige, but I'm looking for what must have been an album on Columbia. There's a very weird liner note on the back, from a noted jazz critic, where he talks about his teenager daughter hearing a Monk recording and saying "He's cool -- he sounds sort of like Tim Hardin." Or something like that. Ring a bell with anyone?

Sorry Tad, didn't realize that was you. It's not that exciting but I have one unknown Prestige anecdote that involves Weinstock, Miles, and Dave Schildkraut

For what it's worth, that album (Monk's Greatest Hits) is available on the Internet Archive. They have the liner notes in PDF format, which makes it easy to copy/paste the text if you want to quote it.

Another Columbia move to make Monk relevant to the late 60's "youth" market:

Hopefully Monk was amused.

I remember reading that someone suggested that Cannonball Adderley be photographed cannonballing into a pool, but that idea was shot down in a hurry.

I've always considered this cover low budget by a third rate artist. Both men look like post-nuclear mutants and are shown playing guitar left handed.

I would refer to it as mechanized, geometric, and futuristic.  It is like the musical equivalent of Richard Powers' paperback illustrations.
