Stompin at the Savoy Posted July 4 Report Posted July 4 (edited) Most of these albums had an initial cd release in the late 80's followed by remasters by RVG, McMaster, or others. This set seems to be a complete remaster of all the included albums. BFrank Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 I should have the box early next week. Looking forward to it! Quote
Jim Duckworth Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 A additional benefit of the Bobby Hutcherson set is that it allows one to investigate Joe Chambers as a composer as there are about 16 of his compositions therein. I probably would not have become aware of this aspect of BH's 60's work without the Mosaic set. Quote
tranemonk Posted July 5 Author Report Posted July 5 I am still waiting for mine to ship. Is there any domestic folks (US) who have not gotten theirs yet? Quote

I got mine in southern Oregon, though it was a few days later than some east coasters got theirs. I did pre-order the moment the announcement was made, though, so I was probably pretty high in the queue. Quote
cliffpeterson Posted July 5 Report Posted July 5 I ordered May 5th. Have not received any shipping notice as yet. Quote

Daniel, "Photon" is a nice composition, more "straight ahead" than most of the material within that album, so that and its length may be the reason it was not included in the original release--certainly the quality of music and performance are not lacking. I hope Amazon or somebody eventually offers a download of that track. I'd pay my $1.29 or whatever to hear it. Are there any huge differences (such as much longer running length) on any of the new alternate takes in the box. Quote

BFrank Posted July 8 Report Posted July 8 I've received several notices that I'm getting the box tomorrow 👍🎶 Quote
cliffpeterson Posted July 9 Report Posted July 9 Just received notice that my box is being prepared for shipment. Yeah!! However on the Mosaic website a few days ago I sent a message concerning shipment to which I have not yet received a response. Quote

Thanks, Lon. I am tempted to get the set, mainly for the added material, and to some extent for everything else (remastering, liner notes, Cuscuna's last set etc). But what bothers me is that I know that I like to approach music by the original albums - which I already own - with original artwork and not split between discs. Hence, I fear that I will not play the set as much as I "should". Quote
Fred Posted July 10 Report Posted July 10 (edited) Just arrived (Italy) from Mark Sound - TYQ Music, Netherland. Great service. Listening to disc 1, remastering is impressive. Edited July 10 by Fred Quote

JSngry Posted July 12 Report Posted July 12 Do we have any color photos that show what color Bobby's turtleneck was? Quote
BFrank Posted July 20 Report Posted July 20 Finally worked my way through the box. What a great set! As mentioned earlier I only had about half of these albums. This box really points to Bobby as a critical cog in the 60s BN sound. Not only with high profile ‘side men,’ but the sophisticated level of the compositions. My only minor quibble is the odd way some of the albums are broken up across disks. I understand why they did it, but since the sessions are all noted by the album names, it’s a little awkward. Quote

T.D. Posted July 20 Report Posted July 20 (edited) The collar looks similar to the one on the San Francisco cover, which I'd call a pale tan color. The turtleneck on the Inner Glow cover is yellowish but seems to be a different weave. Edited July 20 by T.D. Quote
Daniel A Posted July 20 Report Posted July 20 Back when Mosaic had all those Frank Wolff pictures available on their site, I downloaded them. There were several color shots of Bobby, however the turtleneck only appeared on B/W photos. Quote
